Part V: Jack Rose

Half-Elf Bard (College of Glamour)

Had to save the best for last!

Half-Elf bards are a force to be reckoned with, and I couldn’t resist making Jack one. I can definitely see Night Swan as an elf of some kind, and it could be flavored that not being fully elven is part of the reason she’s seemingly so disappointed in him.

Bard is the obvious choice, I think, for Jack (also I love bards and I love Jack Rose so it works out quite nicely). I definitely considered College of Eloquence, but College of Glamour is just perfect for a performer. Being able to charm others by performing for a minute isn’t always going to be helpful in campaigns, but for a performer like Jack, it would be able to be used plenty of times. It also adds some dnd flavor to Night Swan being able to turn Wanderlust and the entire crowd into minions so easily - they all saw Jack’s performance and were charmed. The bard’s Countercharm feature could then be how he saved Wanderlust.

Not to mention the built in pun with Jack of All Trades.

College of Glamour also grants a “wondrous appearance,” which I like to flavor as his look in Treasure.

I made emojis of my dnd group’s characters to use in our discord chat but primarily to make our dm cry @keplercryptids 😜

Part II: Sara

Human Cleric (Life Domain)

Okay, so Sara was a difficult one to figure out. Human is the obvious race choice, but I got completely stuck on choosing a class for her. Ultimately, I went with cleric because I can see her as both a fighter (being the one to actually take on Night Swan 1v1 and winning) and a healer/supporter (she’s so cheerful and seems to really care for her friends). Also, having chosen Wild Magic for Wanderlust’s subclass and not Divine Soul, this party needed a healer, and I thought that Sara was the best candidate out of the characters whose class I really needed to think about (I wanted to put them together as a relatively reasonable playable party).

Life Domain clerics are ideal healers, and I can see Sara filling that role very well. She’s a sweetheart and I love her.

If (after the Lose Yourself series), I were to write a fanfic based on my silly little Just Dance & Dragons AU, would people actually read it? Because I know not everyone is into dnd but I’m thinking of using the base of the JD23/24 storylines and actually making character sheets for the Just Dancers, Night Swan, etc. and using them to create an alternate version of the story based on actual dice rolls, if that makes sense? You wouldn’t have to know about dnd for the story to make sense, but it would be more or less based on the dnd ruleset and all that jazz

Part IV: Mihaly

Wood Elf Monk (Way of the Astral Self)

(Do the glasses match the classic dnd high fantasy aesthetic? No. Do I care? Not one bit.)

I knew I wanted Mihaly to be an elf because of their grace, and I feel like they could definitely have that wise elven agelessness to them in a dnd setting. Wood elf is mainly a mechanical choice because the +1 to wisdom and extra speed are very beneficial to a monk.

I think that monk is the obvious choice for Mihaly, and the Way of the Astral Self is perfect for being flavored to represent their panda form. Kind of like how they use their panda form to fight back against Night Sara in Swan Lake, taking on the form of their astral self would give them benefits to strengthen their fighting. Being a wood elf monk also makes them very fast, and with Brezziana’s Maneuvering Attack, they could be a force to be reckoned with when it comes to movement each round.

Part I: Wanderlust

Aasimar Sorcerer (Wild Magic)

As a deity, making Wanderlust an aasimar is the closest we can get to keeping his divine heritage while still making him as a playable character. It’s easy to do a little bit of revision to the background of the aasimar to be more deity-like than mortal, and overall the mechanical elements of the race are pretty on par with a deity character. Major features include resistance to both necrotic and radiant damage, a built-in healing ability, and getting the Light cantrip.

Sorcerer is a pretty obvious class choice, given that it’s canon to Just Dance itself, but even if it weren’t, the charisma-based innate spell casting ability of the sorcerer fits Wanderlust well.

Originally, I had a whole section defending my choice of Wild Magic when Divine Soul seems to make more sense, but now that we know that the Traveler is not a deity and therefore his abilities come from elsewhere, it makes sense that Wanderlust’s abilities can also come from something other than his divinity. I chose Wild Magic from the start because I like the idea of Wanderlust’s magic manifesting in a sort of wild and unpredictable way - it just fits my own personal interpretation of the character.

Also, just a fun little thing re: Wanderlust being 27 years old, I like to think that in this universe, he had a wild magic surge that resulted in 35-36 on the table: “Roll a d10. Your age changes by a number of years equal to the roll. If the roll is odd, you get younger. If the role is even, you get older.” I imagine he’s like 23, rolls a 4, and is stuck being 27 all of a sudden. It makes me laugh.
