Yeah this show is so weird to me? Like there’s some really odd choices as far as setting up the plot, and there’s Questionable Stuff but surprisingly little blatant fanservice (as in upskirt shots, etc) so it’s just like ??? and I don’t really know how to categorize it. From what I’ve heard, in the manga the whole “bride” thing hasn’t even become relevant thus far, so I’m questioning why the artist included that element in the first place…

honestly? I feel like all these things, like, explicit slavery auctioning and a girl who’s apparently never experienced a shred of human decency, and a powerful magical person who buys her but then intends to grant her power and agency and provide her with lots of aforementioned human decency and a sense of belonging like she’s always wanted, and then at the same time the kind of possessive but completely uh clinical/practical pet ...play?? (but why not use a damn japanese word aggh it’s so cringy), and then the spectre of magical marriage hanging over them which has these kinda romantic sexual submission connotations. all of that. is like kinda sexy tropes that i might actually enjoy if .......THIS DUDE WAS NOT CLEARLY AN ADULT WHO SHOULD BE MORE LIKE A MENTORFATHER TO THIS GIRL THAN ANYTHING ELSE. which vibes he ALSO exudes. WHich squicks me out even more?

like. no. i watched the trailer and i was like huh. no fanservice. great animation. that’s cool. that could be cool. chains and shit. magic. I watched a few episodes of loveless for gods sake im reasonably ok with weird intense magical protector-martyr bullshit. cool cool cool. 

but they don’t execute the tropes well at all? beyond the ADULT bone man x sad lonely magic potential 15-year-old GIRL squick thing. (which honestly i feel like I COULD have forgotten about if they executed the tropes well?)

if she starts out as a slave because she’s SO! SAD! milk it? show me she’s SO! SAD! and really show the desperation of her doing somethin SO! DEHUMANISING! (put it in context of what’s normal??) show that she is being exploited which duh! show that she knows what she’s done (regrets it maybe???) and expects slavery to be slavery! why else - incorporate - SLAVERY?! which bone skeleton either: doesn’t remember to dispell for a bit so that tension can ratchet up  and then dispells in some emotionally loaded way. Like WHAT IS THE POINT OF bullshit sexy slavery if you instantly go like: ok but no master-slave expectations that need to be dealt with. instant release from symbolic chains. it just made me uncomfortable instead like. why is this in here? am i supposed to find this sexy? am i just supposed to be ok with it? isn’t the whole thing how slavery is bad? it’s bad???????? then portray how it’s bad/??? isn’t that why it’s sexy??? XD isn’t that how you get the most punch out of skeleton bone being like: huh? no i grant you humanity as a matter of course EVEN THOUGH I COULD HAVE DECIDED NOT TO

AND AT THE SAME TIME we get infantilising/dehumanising ‘puppy’ bullshit and im like. ok but. where is that COMING from? if she’s no longer a slave and she’s been freed and she has a choice about becoming a mage (but also actually not ???) then why this shit? is it because bone skeleton is ancient and to skeleton she looks like a scruffy animal that needs to be treated with compassion and warmth? it’s a benevolent function of ‘oh this little human is cute and I need to treat her well’.  like give me that goddamn perspective if that’s the case. now it’s just??? CREEPY???? because it’s presented as normal? It’s NOT NORMAL. it’s due to an inequality in their positions of power and perspective. DEFINE THE INEQUALITY as abnormal but benevolent PLEASE

and the marriage thing like. uh. that could be cool i guess? it feels like a super duper super roundabout romantic rape fantasy in the context of him having bought her for the specific purpose of marrying. which. ok. but that SO did not land well in teh first episode anyway.

my english teacher wants me to lecture three of his classes on shakespeare since i know so much about him and his plays, and i'm both EXTREMELY excited (i get! to talk! about! shakespeare! for half an hour! three whole times! in school!) but also a little scared (i have to talk in front of three different classes! for half an hour! in school!) but hhhh mostly excited which is really rare for me and just. wow. i'm so flattered that he offered me this opportunity and i'm so excited to share some of my knowledge about this playwright i adore so much and ,,, so much wow

I always roleplay according to a character I think I can butcher or mess up and not feel bad about doing so but with Meulin it was really different because I really loved her from the start and I love her now even if I think my portrayal of her is completely off. I don't know I think its really wonderful that people would read my threads, and I really hope that I've been able to portray her change from happy go lucky meulin to completely broken and desperate meulin. I know a lot of people who show up now are not going to think she's acting correctly, but at one point not too long ago Meu was indeed that happy girl, she's had a lot of bad things happen to her and to those she loves. There really is a reason as to why she's so broken and sad all the time, its been hard for her and idk So I mean thank you to all the people who read threads and who have stuck by with changing Muse. She's becoming someone I'm not familiar with and I'm sticking around hoping she'll get better. She's a bby of mine and I don't really plan on giving her up.
