Scenario where Luke has to watch dudes at award shows/gigs talk to Julie. The more famous they become, the more desirable the other men get. He decides to meddle - just because he’s dead, doesn’t mean he’s lesser than!
Alex is fed up and embarrassed. Reggie is encourages Luke’s behaviour. Flynn is spurring Julie to talk to the other artists cause, “Hey, that’s freaking Shawn Mendes!”
Meanwhile, Luke is talking over these guys while Julie is trying to have a conversation.
"I mean, Shawn Mendes is tall and hot and talented BUT I WRITE SONGS WITH HER so-"
“Shawn Mendes don’t know shit about them fuzzy dinosaur slippers so HA”
"Do you know what her favourite pen to write with is? No? Sit the fuck down."
Reggie: "Yes, Luke! You tell him!"
Julie is just being nice though? Luke is completely overreacting and it annoys the shit out of her. These ghosts are acting like fools and she is trying to have a normal conversation.
"No, Shawn, I did not tell you to shut up."
After, she takes Luke aside and sits him down like, “You gotta chill.”
"You're my ghost boyfriend, not my ghost bodyguard."
It’s a softer moment, Luke explains his insecurities, and Julie says something like:
“Listen, I am not interested in Shawn Mendes or any of those guys.”
"I don't want you to be Shawn Mendes, I just want you."
Meanwhile Luke is ✨heart eyes✨
And then, cause they’re cute like that, she adds:
“I’m more into 90’s punk than his stuff anyway” 😉 or “I'm not into that clean cut look anyway”
Cue Luke writing a song about this because of course he would.
What Charlotte wanted more than anything else in the world was more sleep. She could hear her best friend making them breakfast in his kitchen, and couldn’t help but think that he was being unnecessarily loud. A loud, exaggerated groan came out of her mouth as she rolled over to stare at the ceiling.
The two had been up late watching movies, and Luke thought it would be best if she stayed the night instead of driving home. He, like always, insisted that she take his bed. And, like always, he had gotten up before her to make breakfast. It wasn’t that she didn’t appreciate it; he was an amazing best friend. She just thought he could cook without blaring music and slamming cabinets.
She stayed in bed until the smell of fresh coffee made its way into the bedroom. She stopped in his bathroom on the way to the kitchen, frowning at her bedhead. In an attempt to look halfway presentable, she threw it up into a messy bun before going to the kitchen and hopping up onto the counter beside the blonde.
Luke hummed a “Good morning,” as he emptied a pan of eggs onto a plate.
“G’morning, Lukey.” She didn’t need him to be looking at her to know that he rolled his eyes at the nickname.
She jumped off of the counter to help him carry the plates to his dining table, then poured them both a cup of coffee. Normally, they would banter back and forth, but the caffeine was yet to wake her up enough for that, so they ate in a comfortable silence. Truthfully, the reason Charlotte wasn’t feeling chatty was because all she could think about was the fact that he would be leaving soon.
When Luke was in town, they spent all of their time together, and when he was gone she spent most of her time alone, waiting for him to call and gush about how amazing everything was. Her sister called it pining. Charlotte figured she was right; she was pretty sure that she was in love with him, not that she’d ever admit it out loud.
Another thing she wouldn’t tell him was how upset she was about him leaving. She’d thought she’d have gotten used to it, but her heart still broke every time they said goodbye.
No, she wouldn’t tell him either of those things. Especially since he was about to leave. It wouldn’t be fair to him.
After they washed the dishes, Charlotte looked at Luke expectantly. “Okay, we only have a few days left before you go back on tour. What’re we doing today?”
“Uh… I dunno. Whatever you want.”
She couldn’t help but roll her eyes. “Okay, then you’re taking me to the roller rink for an air hockey tournament.”
His face immediately lit up at the mention of what used to be their favorite activity. “Deal.”
The two of them used to go out to play air hockey every week, some weeks more than once. It had become their thing. There was an unspoken rule that they wouldn’t use the table at KrAzY Sk8 with anyone else unless they were both present. And they hadn’t. Even when they got busy and started going less often, Luke and Charlotte would make sure that they went at least once a month unless he was touring. He had even talked about it on interviews before. It had become one of Charlotte’s favorite places.
Charlotte decided to go home to get ready so that she could put some makeup on and fix her hair a little before being in public with Luke. Ever since he became famous, someone took a picture of them every time they went out together. Charlotte didn’t really mind—normally his fans treated her pretty sweetly—she just wanted to look okay if she was going to be all over the internet.
She saw Luke’s car already parked when she pulled into the parking lot of the rink and braced herself. She knew that once she got inside she would have to worm her way through the crowd to the Australian, and he would reassure everyone that they weren’t dating, just friends, and she would pretend not to be hollow inside.
Despite the apprehensive ache that bloomed in her chest, she smiled when she saw Luke with his fans. How much he cared about them was one of the things she loved about him. He was always nice, even on the days when he was cranky and didn’t really want any extra attention. His back was to her as she approached, but she could hear the smile in his voice as he spoke with them.
She stopped in her tracks when she heard someone ask about her. The girl had asked if they were ever going to get together, and Charlotte couldn’t help but wonder how he would answer.
“No, I doubt it. Charlie’s… I love her, but no.” He let out a soft chuckle. “We’re just friends. Probably always will be.”
Charlotte forced herself not to react, even though she suddenly felt like crying. One of the girls facing Luke perked up suddenly, making eye contact with her. It didn’t take long for him to turn around, grinning when he saw her.
“Hey, guys.” She greeted, forcing a smile as she came over and took a seat at his table.
“That’s my cue. Sorry guys,” Luke said, to which the people around him visibly deflated.
“Don’t worry about me, Luke.” She winked at one of the girls. “I don’t mind sharing. I get to see him all the time. It’s only fair you guys get to talk to him, too.”
Luke gave her a soft smile before turning back to his fans. After everyone had a chance to talk to Luke, and Charlotte, to her surprise, the pair were finally able to start their tournament.
A few hours, and a lot of curse words, later, Charlotte declared herself the winner and started whining about being hungry. Luke offered to take her somewhere, but, with his words from earlier still echoing in her ears, she declined.
“Maggie and I have dinner plans.” She lied. “I think she’s having boy problems, so I don’t want to cancel.”
He nodded. “No worries. You’re going to Cal’s party tomorrow, though, right?”
“Wouldn’t miss it.”
As soon as she was in her car, Charlotte decided that she wouldn’t pine over Luke anymore. Hearing him say that they would only ever be friends was just the push she needed to try to move on.
She really did have dinner with her older sister that night. And they did talk about boy problems, just not Maggie’s. Charlotte felt bad for lying to Luke, she just didn’t think she could be alone with him any longer. Maggie’s advice after hearing that was to find a rebound. Charlotte frowned at the suggestion. It’s not like she’d been saving herself for Luke or anything, she’d been with other guys, but she didn’t like the idea of using someone.
The older girl pointed out that there were plenty of guys who would be fine with her using them for sex, and as long as she was up front about it she would have a clear conscience.
“Whatever you decide to do, little sis… if Luke doesn’t think you’re wifey material, he’s an idiot who doesn’t deserve you.” Maggie said as before heading to her bedroom.
Charlotte stayed up for a few more hours, smiling to herself when Luke texted her something stupid that Ashton said. She couldn’t believe how strong Luke’s grip on her heart was. Hearing from him always lifted her spirits, even when he was the reason they were down in the first place.
She went on twitter and saw a bunch of photos of them from the roller rink, including one of Luke looking at her in what could only be described as adoration. After saving the picture, she checked the comments to see that a lot of the fans thought so, too. If he did, Charlotte thought, things would be much easier.
The party the next day was pretty fun. Calum had only invited a few close friends, so it was pretty lowkey. Charlotte had managed to avoid Luke without him getting suspicious by helping Calum with his host duties whenever she could.
They spent the following two days together, though. As much as Charlotte wanted to hide in her room until he left, she knew that it would really hurt him if she told him she didn’t want to see him before he was going to be gone for the next three months.
Two Weeks Later
After he left, she did lock herself in her room. She only left the house to go to work for the next week. She probably would’ve moped for longer had Maggie not confronted her about it.
So, when Maggie told her they were going out one day, she let her older sister fix her hair and makeup. Maggie’s friends had found someone to set her up with, and she wanted Charlotte there to be her wingwoman. Charlotte suspected that it was an attempt to set her up as well, but she decided to go through with her decision to get over her best friend. When he called that night she answered, but told him that she was going out and would call him back later.
When they got to the bar, Charlotte’s suspicions were proved correct. It was a double date. She was surprised at how easily she and her date had hit it off. They watched a lot of the same tv shows and had similar senses of humor.
She was surprised at the end of the night when she realized how late it was. She hadn’t so much as thought about Luke in the past five hours.
❁❁❁❁
It was surprising for Luke when Charlotte hung up on him so quickly. They had never done that to each other. He came back into the living area of the tour bus, frowning.
“That was fast.” Michael said. “You and Char normally talk for hours.”
“Didn’t you say she was acting weird before we left? Do you think she’s seeing someone?” Michael asked.
Luke’s stomach twisted at the idea of her with someone else. He knew that he had no reason to be upset, it’s not like they were together. He should be happy for her. After all, he knew that she’d been wanting a relationship for a while. He had just hoped that when she got into a relationship it would be with him.
Instead of answering Michael’s question, Luke went on Find My Friends. He frowned when he saw that Charlotte was at one of the most popular bars in their town. Normally, if she was drinking she went to Rudy’s, a more unknown bar that was a lot quieter than the others. The only reason he could think of that would have her there was a date.
“You’ve gotta tell her how you feel, mate.”
“I can’t. Not if she just got into a relationship. The timing isn't right.”
“What if she’s not seeing anyone?”
“If she’s not seeing anyone when we get back… I’ll tell her then.”
Two Months Later
It was safe to say that Charlotte was having a difficult time moving on. She’d been on a handful of dates with Carson, the guy Maggie had set her up with. She liked him, but she didn’t think it would be fair for her to get into a relationship with him while she still had feelings for Luke.
She had made sure to call Luke the day after their first date to apologize, but chose not to tell him about Carson just yet. But then it never felt like the right time. How was she supposed to tell him that she was seeing someone when he was gushing about how happy he was?
It should’ve been easy. It should’ve been “I’m glad you’re happy, I’m happy too.” She supposed that some part of her was afraid that it would hurt him. That some part of her was still hoping he had feelings for her. And it’s not like she and Carson were boyfriend and girlfriend. She promised herself that she would tell Luke if they decided to become serious about one another.
The only problem? Luke was going to be home in two weeks, and she still didn’t know what she wanted her relationship with Carson to be.
Maggie, who had wasted no time in making her date, Tommy, her boyfriend, insisted that they have another double date. When Carson suggested roller skating, Charlotte felt unease bubble in her chest. The roller rink had always been her place to go with Luke. She felt weird talking about it with anyone else. Maggie had loved the idea though. She gave Charlotte a pep talk, assuring her that it was fine, after all Luke couldn’t really expect her to never go there with someone else, could he?
When they got there, Charlotte’s nerves were instantly soothed. All of the good memories she had of the place rushed to her, and she knew that Luke wouldn’t mind. He probably wouldn’t even find out.
“What first?” Carson asked, grabbing her hand. “Skating or arcade games?”
“Definitely skating first.” Charlotte replied, “My skating skills are nowhere near my gaming skills, and I like to end dates on a high note.”
Her sister chuckled. “You should see her play air hockey. She’s a beast.”
“We’ll have to see about that, won’t we?”
Charlotte didn’t know how long they skated before she took a particularly hard fall and decided to hang her skates up. Carson turned his in with her, leaving Maggie and Tommy to have some alone time. After making sure that she was okay and didn’t want to leave, Carson went out to his car and came back with a bag of quarters. Charlotte managed to steer him away from the air hockey at first. They played a few rounds of foosball and pool, and he won her a stuffed animal from the claw machine before tugging her over to the empty table.
“Your sister said you’re pretty good. That true?”
“Honey, I’m amazing.” She answered, though she hesitated to step any closer.
If she thought being at the rink without Luke had felt weird, seeing her date putting coins in the table’s coin slot felt like she was in the twilight zone. It felt like a betrayal.
The table whirred to life, the score setting itself back to zero, and Carson faced her. “Well, let’s see what you’ve got.”
Her sister’s voice came to her then, telling her that it was just a game and, again, Luke probably wouldn’t even find out unless she told him. Which she would, if she ever ended up telling him about Carson in the first place.
She pushed her discomfort down and took her place on the opposite side of the table. They played a few rounds before Maggie came over to see if Charlotte was ready to go home.
The car ride was pretty quiet. Maggie gushed about how much she liked Tommy, and Charlotte listened. She felt a small twinge of regret as she thought about what Luke would think of her playing on their table with someone else.
When they got home, she saw that Ashton was doing a livestream and decided to watch. Ashton was walking to the tour bus, talking about the show they had the next day. As he opened the door, the first thing she heard was a “what the fuck?” from an angry Luke.
Ashton raised his eyebrows and flipped the camera so that everyone watching could see Luke stand up and shove his phone towards Calum, who was sitting beside him. “Have you seen this shit?”
Calum, slightly surprised by the outburst, squinted at the phone. “Is that Charlotte?”
“Yeah. On a fucking date. Playing air hockey at our place with some fucking guy.” It was clear that Luke was pissed. “This whole time she never mentioned meeting someone and suddenly she’s taking some fucking guy to our place like it’s nothing.”
“Uh, Luke-” Ashton started.
“No. I know, Ash. I should be happy for her. But I can’t. I can’t be happy that she’s with someone else. I’m in fucking love with her and she’s-”
The livestream cut off, leaving Charlotte staring wide eyed at her phone. Did he really say that? That he loved her? After a few seconds to recover from the shock, she was calling Luke, desperate to hear him say it again.
He didn’t answer her first call. She was sure that Ashton had told him that he had been streaming during Luke’s confession, but she doubted they knew that she had been watching. The second time she called, he answered.
“Hey, Char…” She could hear the mix of emotions in his voice. Half angry at her still, half nervous that she’d seen the stream.
“I- you….” She took a deep, steadying breath before letting all of her thoughts spill out. “I didn’t want to play with him. Maggie had mentioned that I’m pretty good at air hockey, and he wouldn’t stop asking, so I gave in. She said you wouldn’t find out and I know that’s not cool, but I never would’ve played if I knew it would hurt you. I never want to hurt you, you’re my best friend and you… You love me?”
“I didn’t want you to hear it that way.” When he spoke again, she could hear the anger in his voice giving way to hurt. “Who is he?”
“His name’s Carson. We’ve been… dating, I guess. But, Luke, if you meant what you said, you should know-”
“Of course I meant it. I love you, Charlotte. But you’re with him, and I’m too late.”
“No. God, no, Luke. I’m not with him. We’ve been dating, but I didn’t want to make it official because I love you, too.”
There was a long pause before Luke spoke again. “You do?”
“Yes.” She felt a few tears sliding down her cheeks. She couldn’t believe that it was finally happening. She had told Luke how she felt, and he felt the same way.
“I wish I could kiss you right now.”
“That would be nice.”
“Can you be at my apartment when I get home?”
“I was planning on it.”
“Good. I’ll see you in two weeks.”
Two Years Later
Charlotte laughed as Luke ran around the car to open her door. He held out his hand to help her get out, which made her laugh a little more. Ever since they officially started dating, he had insisted on being a perfect gentleman.
They walked hand in hand into the skating rink and over to the table. As they waited for the people playing to finish, Luke wrapped his arms around her waist.
“Have I ever told you how cute you are in that outfit?”
Charlotte rolled her eyes and smiled. “You think I look cute in everything.”
“Because you do.” The warmth in his eyes had her melting inside. “You’re perfect, love.”
The table opened up, and they went to begin their game. The playful banter and teasing ever present as their competitive spirits rose. Charlotte won the first game and demanded a kiss as her prize, which Luke gladly granted her.
The second game was a little more intense. Charlotte found herself leaning over the table, watching intently as Luke sent the puck flying back at her. She stopped it from reaching her goal, but had hit it with just enough force that it came back and slid right past her guard. Luke chuckled at her pouting face. “It’s okay, doll. Grab the puck and I’ll let you get one in on me, deal?”
“No, it’s fine.” She muttered, leaning down to retrieve the betrayer.
As she picked it up, she noticed writing on the back. She stood, raising the puck so that she could see it in the light. Scrawled in Luke’s handwriting were four words: Will you marry me?
Her head shot up. She turned to Luke, who, she realized, was kneeling and holding a small jewelry box. He smiled nervously and pulled it open. “Charlotte Anne Williams… I love you so much. Will you be my wife?”
“Luke,” She breathed, bringing the puck to her chest. Tears welled up in her eyes and spilled over. She walked over to him, falling to her knees and grabbing his hands. “Yes. Yes, of course I will.”
He grinned, all hints of worry leaving his face. He pulled her in for a soft kiss before pulling away and sliding the ring onto her finger.
i accidentely deleted the ask but here is the imagine of calum and bestfriend!luke fighting over you.
cake fighting is hot as hell. Ok but have you ever seen that thing and luke asks calum if hes still angry at him and calum gives him the cold shoulder…DAMN, anyways,,, writing
“what do you fucking mean you’re dating her” “Its not that hard to understand lucas, me and her are dating, don’t get fucking jealous because i took away your crush” Calum loved her. She was everything anyone could ever want. He was perfect in his eyes and the only other person that could show her that was her bestfriend luke…her extremely jealous bestfriend. Luke lunged at calum before viciously bringing him to the ground rolling around on the ground, doing nothing but tiring each other out. Luke loved her just as much as calum did but luke loved her in a brother/sister type of way, despite the endless teasing they’d gotten from people asking if they are dating or that the kid they were babysitting made you and him the cutest family. It would be hard for luke to accept that another man was being squeezed into her life. little did dumb and dumber know that as they were rolling on the floor, she was just in the other room sobbing. she loved them both, in different ways but equally. Luke stopped while holding calum back before making a stop motion with his hand siezing calum in the moment until calum understood why he stopped as well. Getting up and brushing the dust off themselves they saw her on the couch in the room over crying. concern washed over both faces as they saw her look up and sob harder into her hand. They rushed to her side immediatley squishing her and rubbing her back before she meekly whimpered a few words. “I love you both so much just stop acting like idiots”. They guiltiy looked at eachother before luke spoke, “Okay i admit that i got a little jealous, but its hard to see my best friend leave” She moved the hair out of her face and behind her ear before grabbing lukes face, the stubble tickling her hand but forcing him to look at her, “we’ve been bestfriends since forever lukey i’m not gonna leave you” He smiled and embraced her into a hug, his musk smelling better than ever before calum spoke up “Okay Hemmings that’s enough, get your hands off my girlfriend”
