There was a hens and bucks party going on in this particular episode of The Newsreader, and there’s also a party happening at News At Six 1986! Today, we are celebrating four years of the Instagram division of the NAS1986 media empire 😉

It was this evening four years ago that I decided to bring an idea to fruition. I had been obsessed with The Newsreader for five months at that stage, and although I had converted my old Twitter and Tumblr accounts from my teenage years into Newsreader accounts, I felt as though a certain platform was missing; the one I used the most of all the social media platforms.

After getting back from a family holiday to the Blue Mountains, on the 19th of January 2022, NAS1986 made its Instagram debut, and as the old saying goes, the rest was history!

Since then, I have gained over one thousand Newsreader fans and nerds as readers, made countless cherished friends, and even had the honour of connecting with many members of the show’s cast and crew; getting to know them personally too.

From being the girl who was the only person constantly talking about The Newsreader non-stop online, her posts evolving from a series of collages, to educational content, to dress-ups and then to scene analysis posts, to becoming a cast member of the show myself, the past four years have been a wild ride that I will never forget.

Whenever you have found NAS1986, know that I truly appreciate your support, and I am thrilled that you have taken this ride with me. I hope that I’ll be celebrating my fifth Instagram anniversary with you this time next year too!

The most satisfying scene of the whole season. Lindsay count your fkn days I’m after you.

I don't believe it was Gerry who sold the story about Dale and Tim to Donna. I don't think throwing someone else under the bus to save himself is above Gerry. BUT, at that point, selling Dale wouldn't benefit Gerry at all. The public wouldn't think "There's only room for one queer person per network. If Dale's gay* than Gerry must be straight". No! They'll think "Oh! So they're both gay*. They must have fucked. And Helen must be a lesbian".

Now, my theory is that Jean is behind that story.

From season 1 and throughout season 2 we have been shown that she knows what goes on in that office.

And we've also been shown that she at least suspects that there's something going on between Tim and Dale

I think she wanted to take revenge against Helen for unfoundedly accuse her of selling the story about Helen's mental health issues.

Maybe it's a red herring and I'm wrong, but I think there's enough evidence to suspect her.

*Dale and Gerry are bisexual, but the public wouldn't use that word.

Also, I haven't read anyone talk about this theory, but I haven't been paying much attention to the fandom. If someone else came up with it before and wants a shout out before season 3 airs, let me know.

Edit after watching season 3: I still think she did it. But I think the moment she sees Dale having a mental breakdown on screen, she regrets it deeply.

A little check in from me as it’s been five days since my latest post! Hope you’re all well, and that you don’t mind this reposted photo. I am honouring my promise to myself to run this page more lightly throughout 2026, and telling myself that it’s okay to reshare!

This is one of the four unit stills from this particular scene, which just happens to be the scene I was an extra in! Even cooler, I appear in two of the unit stills, having been photographed by Jane Zhang in the newsroom behind The Newsreader’s main stars. We all know how much I value the unit stills from this show for page running purposes, so to have been given two unit stills of my very own was extremely special, and I cherish these so much.

As for the part of the scene with Dale and Lindsay in Dale’s office, I was in the room when this was filmed, however because myself and the rest of the cast were huddled in the foyer and stairwell, I couldn’t hear the dialogue being said by Sam and William. It was only when the scene aired on television that I knew what was happening back there!

I do remember Sam walking down the hallway, and William yelling out behind him about there being something for Val to stick in her albums. It has been lovely having context for that line now! I had contemplated what that line meant in the twelve months between filming and the airing of ‘On The Brink.’

The 18th March 2024 will forever be a magical day in my life, and I will always remember it with fondness and enormous gratitude.

Now, back to packing for me! ❤️

Have you ever seen two ladies so lovely and beautiful? Gosh I have adored having these two together on my screen for the last almost four years, playing Noelene Kim and Jean Pascoe!

When I spoke to Caroline Lee on my set visit day, I commented on the beautiful work mum and work daughter relationship that the two ladies had with one another, and she responded, “she [Jean] really misses her [Noelene].” As discovered in Season Three, Noelene went on maternity leave (unfortunately, with very little assistance from Lindsay), and not long afterwards, she made the move to Public Eye. It’s no wonder that Jean missed Noelene, she no longer was able to glance from her desk and spot the lovely young dark-haired lady hard at work.

Jean was there for every moment of Noelene’s in the newsroom. She was the first to pick that there might be something going on between her and Rob Rickards, she sadly helped Noelene pack her things when she was momentarily fired in Season One, she helped Noelene piece together her very first Christmas lunch to impress her in-laws, and no doubt attended Noelene’s wedding and had great fun putting together presents for the birth of Baby Hana.

In a sense, I think the loss of her two ‘work children’ from the workplace - Noelene and Dale - due to the mistreatment they faced from Lindsay was what made Jean put her foot down and find the courage to bring Lindsay’s cruel treatment to an end. His behaviours were the reason why Noelene and Dale could no longer work alongside her, and she wasn’t going to stand by and lose any more precious colleagues due to his cruel dictatorship. She was quite maternal towards these two; all the way down to celebrating Dale’s Russell Street reporting with his actual mum Val, and as it turned out, Jean Pascoe was a work mum not to be messed with! The claws came out in the end, and thank goodness for that! 💖

I cannot wait to see what Michelle and Caroline do next on screen! 🌟📺

On an evening in August 1989, Dennis Tibb delivered a script update to Dale Jennings in the makeup room; asking Cheryl to give them five minutes alone.

Rob had told Dennis earlier about his and Dale’s meeting with the CEO, about how Mr Bertrand wouldn’t dump Lindsay until they had found a good replacement. In this discussion, Rob had said that he would be keen to see Dennis in the job, and Dennis hoped that he could count on Dale’s support.

The CEO is looking for someone who has acted in the role; Dale shared. The thing is, Dennis pretty much has acted in the role, every single day. Dale asked Dennis if he had a clear idea where he would take the bulletin. Dennis had so many ideas; segments, formats, desk designs, overseas tours, even interviews with presidents. Dale considered this. “Okay. Well, write down some ideas, and we’ll have a chat.”

Dennis decided to stay back to type his proposal; promising his girlfriend Debra that he would see her when she got off stage. “You’re gonna lose that woman unless you start leaving at a reasonable hour,” Jean glanced at her watch. Dennis bade her goodnight, and typed on the front cover; “News At Six: 1990. Dennis Tibb. Community. Culture. Current Events.”

Days later, Dennis handed a thick document to Dale in his office. It was very detailed; Dennis acknowledged, bursting at the seams with pride. Dale considered his response. They had found a candidate; he shared with Dennis. Paul Stricker of The Walters Report. Dennis was stumped. “But I haven’t even had a meeting yet.” Dale promised that none of his ideas would go to waste. “Mate, I just want a shot. It’s all I’m asking, just a shot, right? You’ve worked with me for years now. Surely that gets me a shot.” He left Dale’s office; feelings of hurt and betrayal stinging from deep inside.

When talent and drive such as Dennis’ isn’t even enough to be rewarded, Dennis had to question where his loyalty lied. As he divulged Dale and Rob’s plan to Lindsay, he had no idea that his strongest ally was on the other side of the door; the one that would help him play his next cards, when the time came.

It's a Newsreader birthday today!

According to the internet, today is the incredible Caroline Lee's birthday! The big 7-0 today for Ms Lee, apparently!

Wishing our Jean a very happy birthday! Go pop on a sparkly brooch and one of her audiobooks to celebrate! May I recommend to you guys her narration of Liane Moriarty's 'Apples Never Fall', I'm really enjoying it right now. She's a very expressive reader! 💖🎉🎂
