Character Profile: Jed Berwind
Jed's a good ol' boy from Harlan County, Kentucky. He's married to a woman named Genny and has a daughter named Claire. Like most people in Harlan County - or the part of it he's from - he's worked the coal mines and dabbled in some petty crime to help pay the bills.
He's very pretty, but not all that smart. Jed got tied up with the local crime family, the Bennetts, just as things were starting to go south for them. He signed up thinking he'd be selling weed and the next thing you know... he's with his boss, Dickie Bennett, aiming his shotgun at a woman old enough to be his mother while Dickie kills her.
Dickie lives up to his name and tries to pin the murder on Jed and get him killed for resisting arrest (it's handy when the local police chief is corrupt). Thankfully for Jed, a US Marshal rides to his rescue and offers him a way out - testifying against Dickie Bennett.
Jed agrees - it's the only way he'll get to stay out of jail and live with his wife and daughter. He goes with Raylan for his own protection, but... well, the Bennetts reach everywhere.
He gets a visit from his grandmother, who reminds him of an old family debt owed to the Bennetts.
Jed changes his tune and confesses to murdering the woman. Nothing will convince him to talk.... will it?
Jed's in four episodes of Justified, which is currently streaming on Amazon Prime - in America, at least. He's in three episodes of season 2, one episode of season 3. Fantastic show to start with, even more fantastic with Richard in it. As always, Richard takes a bit character and brings him to life.
