Chapter 19: and somehow, through it all, I stand
summary:
The Director reaches to shake Tim's hand and, because Tim is still technically employed by him, returns the gestures. "And deputy Gutterson, I have to say it is good to see you on your feet." "Thanks, but it's just one foot and it's mostly the crutches. My balance sucks." Tim answers and he hears Art cough to cover his chuckle. "Well, regardless, reading the report had been chilling." Reynolds sits, which then allows everyone else to do the same. Tim lays his crutches down on the floor before he responds. "Living it was a bit of a trip, too." "I bet," Reynolds clearly isn't bothered by Tim's sarcasm, "how's the recovery going?" "About as well as it can be. I have physical therapy every other day and I see a psychologist regularly." Tim keeps his answers simple because he doesn't really want to be having this conversation.

tim tuesday
Tim Tuesday? Why not see how Tim's doing in the mine. Pt 1 and Pt 2
"I've got good news and bad news." Raylan grunts as his flashlight examines the beam on Tim's chest, "the good news is that this thing isn't sitting on you with its full weight. It's kind of propped up behind your shoulder." Tim wants to tell him it doesn't feel like it's propped up. He can't breathe. "The bad news is I ain't getting this off you without help." Raylan sighs as he returns to his position next to Tim's head as he sets a bag down in the dust. "Brought some supplies because we figured maybe you might be a little busted up." Just a little. Tim blinks as Raylan pulls out a bottle of water and he finds himself shaking his head. If he's bleeding internally, drinking water is a no-no. He remembers learning that when Abacus took a shot to the stomach and Doc nearly tackled Turkey when he tried to give him water.
Thinking back on it, Tim realizes most of their nicknames sound ridiculous.
"Relax, I'm gonna use it to wash your face and get a look at where all this blood is coming from." Raylan's wetting what looks like a rag and Tim blinks when it slides over his face. When it goes across his forehead, he feels a deep sting and he swallows thickly to keep from hissing.
"Sorry," Raylan says it quietly before he hisses himself. "Gave yourself a good smack," and Tim feels more water poured over his forehead before the cloth is used to wipe away coal dust and blood. "Can you lift your head?" Raylan asks suddenly and Tim blinks before he tries. His vision swims, but he feels Raylan's hand against the back of his neck to support him while his other hand seems to comb through Tim's hair.
"Make that smacks. Okay, I'm gonna put my jacket under your head with some bandages. Hopefully that'll help. Then I'll stick one to your forehead." Tim remains silent as Raylan provides him with a makeshift pillow before he tapes a thick bandage to his forehead and sits back with a sigh.
"I gotta check out your left leg, too. Think maybe a piece of somethin' went through your calf." He hears Raylan get up and he finds himself struggling to stay awake. He feels his eyes slide closed and Doc's voice is echoing down the mine shaft.
"Guts? You gotta stay awake, you idiot."
Doc's bedside manner was never great, but it was effective and Tim isn't about to piss him off, so he peels his eyes open when he feels a hand on his ankle.
"Looks like a piece of the floor you went through decided to hitch a ride in your calf." Raylan says and Tim doesn't really feel much as Raylan probably does his best to secure and bandage his leg. "Don't think the bone's broken, though, so..." he hears Raylan grunt and then he reappears beside him. "Gonna let Art know your condition and get an ETA on those bucket boys to get you out of here."
Tim isn't quite sure he's got it in him to stay awake that long.
