Barriss sniffled as she lay in her bed, sitting up as her master approached. She could already smell the food and gave her master an inquisitive look. “What is this for, Master?” She wasn’t complaining, but she was a little bit surprised.

He’s silent for a long moment as he looks over the blaster rifle in his hands---nearly the same make and model that he’s held since he was old enough to manage the weapon’s light recoil. 

     “It’s a nice sentiment, General,” he says, finally. “One I can appreciate." The words feel false, too polite, and they leave a sour taste in his mouth. He knows he’s supposed to say, he knows what response is expected of him, especially to a superior, a Jedi, but he continues anyway.

     “But the...galaxy is not in agreement.”

Kanan stood and stared in silence. There had always been rumors that Master Luminara survived Order 66, but he had never believed them. He couldn’t let himself believe them. That would have given him hope, and hope was a dangerous thing, especially for an ex-Jedi on the run. 

And yet, here she was, alive and in the flesh.

“Master... How can this be...?”

“No way!” Anakin took the box away from Luminara. “I’ve bought them, and that means they are mine!”

"I can still smell it, you know. I can't forget that smell."

Anakin crossed his arms. When he looked back at what had happened during the war, this cursed and merciless war, a shiver ran down his spin. Gazing at Luminara, his eyes were full of sorrow… And guilt? “I know.” He said quietly. “I can’t forget it either.”

Barriss looked at her master with a little worry and a little bit of anxiety. She had been held by the Empire for a while and had found out what had been planned for the Jedi people. She wanted to save who she could while she could. She wanted to make up for the wrong she had done. “Master, please listen to me. You must leave as quickly as you can. You must go somewhere safe.” She spoke softly. She had a look of urgency in her face and in her voice. She wanted to make sure that some of the Jedi survived.

Barriss had a strong connection to the force, she always had. She had managed to learn many tricks that even some Jedi Knights had yet to master. The place she faltered, however, was her swordsmanship. It was for this reason that she was training with her master rather than studying in the library as usual.

She went on the offensive, striking out with a clumsy version of her master’s form, her frustration turning into the first hints of actual anger. “I’ll never get this, Master!”
