Haven’t posted here in a minute! Slowly catching up with publication news—so glad & moved to have new work in West Branch. These two poems, along with a comment, are part of a special feature, “Welcome to the River: Poets on Queerness & Lineage,” edited by David Winter. Here are my contributor copies + the first page of the longer poem. You can also read this special feature online at the official West Branch site.
Many thanks to David for asking me to be a part of this gathering; what an honor to share space with Oliver Baez Bendorf, Kathy Fagan, Carl Phillips, and Rickey Laurentiis.
And shout-out to Joseph O. Legaspi in my comment. My first poem here, “The School of Logic” is for the super logical and always beautiful Jeff Gilbert. My second poem, “The School of Joy / Letter to Michelle Lin” is dedicated in memory to my wonderful student Tanya Jones & addressed to the brilliant Michelle Lin, who always knows what snacks to bring. With love & queer futures. ❤️

Amon Amarth - The Crusher (Metal Blade): A decent speed metal race though a mythic land being renovated by Odin's Valkyries, with a rest stop at Ginnungagap, a sort of Nordic 7-Eleven. Of course, as vacations go, the Temple of Thor is always a good bet.
Review of Amon Amarth's album "The Crusher" in Guitar World's Metal Detector column. Written by Jeff Gilbert, July 2001
The bailout of the auto industry in 2009 has become a big issue in this year's Michigan primary election. Jeff Gilbert reports.
And now that we brought this to light, they're in fear of what's going to come out of this. And I'm glad we finally stepped up and are telling our story so it can be heard because it needs to be out there. You can't continue to treat people in the manner in which you're treating them, whether it be employees or citizens, you have to treat people in a good way. Respect is not demanded. Respect is earned. And if you don't treat people with respect, then you're not going to get respect. People need to pay attention to what's going on in Quartzsite because I don't think this is an isolated situation. I think this is happening all over the country in different levels, from the top at the federal government level all the way to the bottom, you know, small town America like Quartzsite. So people, take control and pay attention to what's going on in your city government.
Recently re-instated Sergeant William Ponce, of the Quartzsite PD, advising U.S. citizens to stay vigilant and to scrutinize their local government as much as the federal government.
Ponce's comments came during an interview discussing, what he believes are, the reasons the local government continues to make life difficult for 9 officers whose suspensions were ruled unlawful by a La Paz County judge. Ponce, and his fellow officers, were placed on administrative leave after submitting a letter of no-confidence in Police Chief Jeff Gilbert to the Mayor and other local officials.
