Any strong opinions on GURPS? If you like it, what games did you enjoy? If you hate it, lets just talk about Shadowrun.

I ran a Steampunk GURPS campaign for about a year and a half.  I really like it for what it is: setting-agnostic rulesystem for a casual game.  I didn’t find the combat options particularly compelling, so I’m not sure I would recommend it for “hardcore” gamers that want to bust out their minis and roll out the hex maps.  But for telling a story in a custom setting, and providing enough materials to do what we wanted to, it worked really well.

Aang wasn’t so much a shitty father as a father who also has basically the most important and distracting job in the world, which he isn’t allowed to quit. And also, yeah, Aang was raised by monks, he has no idea how to be a parent.

"Shitty" might be an overstatement, yeah! Thing is, I don't feel like it's any fault of Aang's so much as it's a fault of out-of-character writing, really.

But like... most kids who have busy parents with a lot of responsibility at least like, understand why their parent doesn't have so much time for them, y'know? Unless their parent's genuinely being irresponsible about it... like, workin' a hard dayjob or having to go on a lot of business trips isn't an excuse to ignore two outta three of your kids.

And "not ignoring your kids" doesn't necessarily have to be anything huge like going on a bunch of family vacations or always being around for everything. Like, growing up, my parents always had a shit ton of work to do that took up the better parts of their days, but they'd make time for me in different ways. Like takin' me to work with them, having meals together sometimes, taking me to and from school instead of making me take the bus, and a lot of the time when one of them would be gone they'd try to bring me somethin' back, like leftovers from their lunch or like any kind of small thing so I'd know they were thinkin' bout me. And honestly I think that if parents make at least some kind of effort like any of that stuff, I mean it's not entirely ideal, but the kids'll understand. Especially later in life, when they can really understand the stress the parent was going through and see that the parent was making an effort and keeping them in mind.

So it seems really weird to me that Kaya and Bumi would feel like they did about Aang unless he was actually legit ignoring them. Which is frickin' weird considering how people-focused Aang was through the entirety of A:TLA. All his motivations were not focused on justice or ideals or anything, but on the effects the war had on people and on his friends. And then he ignores his own kids? Weird, man.

Other kids without parents have grown up to be stellar parents themselves because they were empathetic and knew how to treat people, and regardless of that I think Aang had a really good parental figure in Monk Gyatso. I also find it kinda hard to believe that Katara wouldn't have noticed what was goin' on and brought it up to Aang? If nothing else, Katara wouldn't have stood by. Like, she's the kinda mom who the kids would've felt comfortable confiding in, and there's nnno way I can see Katara sitting around and not doing anything about it.

So I mean, this weird arc about Aang not being around for Kaya and Bumi to sow some inter-sibling tension between Aang's kids is really ignoring key parts of Aang and Katara's characters. It definitely struck me as weird at first, but the more I think about it, the more... wwrrooong it gets, haha

Princess Nine - Baseball, quite good Yawara! A Fashionable Judo Girl - Judo, but also life and stuff. Only a manga. Rideback - Ballet dancer becomes Motorcycle-Mecha racer. I can't vouch for many others, but these ones were in my brain.

ooo. thanks. yeah. most of the ones marghe found a bit ago looked really terrible for one reason or another, so good sports anime is awesome. now I just need someone to make as many female sports anime series as there are male sports anime, and I can then go die in a pile of female sports media.

You welcome! I have it save in my favs to read later, but It looks really good, the art is pretty and the manga has at least 8 volumes. So not everything is lost yet. And I undertand, we need more sports anime with girls as protagonist
