Tell me about one of your OCs?

Oh boy…hmmm….

Ok. My OG OC, from before I even knew what OC stood for.

Ara’taya.

Yes, that’s where my username comes from. She is a plucky, athletic young woman (when I was writing her at like 14-16, she was 18, but as an adult, I think her being 20-23 would be more appropriate to the story.)

In her world being a half-elf like her is not great. (Generic fantasy world, mostly, teenage me never did flesh things out beyond "there are elves and humans, and they don't get along. Also, horses aren't a thing in this world.") So she lives alone in a treehouse in the forest near the woods. Well, almost alone. Her friend/pet Rat'atook the flying squirrel is also there. He's intelligent and a little mischievous, but also loyal.

Ar'ataya is a good work carver, archer, and general survivalist. If she was in DnD, I think she'd be a ranger or a druid. She has a bit of magic too, where she can subtly make her wood carvings move. Honestly, it's a lot like a gif, but 3D.

The 'a is also important in that world. Everyone who is a recognized part of the community has an apostrophe A somewhere in their name. In some ways, she's being a bit cheeky by keeping it in her name, as she is mostly accepted, but still a bit of a pariah, as her mixed race heritage can get her shunned in most villages in the area. But she's better off than her....unexpected guest, Darvid, who would love to be D'arvid, but can't be because his mother was a whore and he has no father.

Darvid shows up one night, desperate to convince Ar'ataya to join him on a big quest--he thinks that he and she are the chosen ones to fulfill a prophecy about saving the kingdom. The prophecy says that "one without name" and "another without race" are going to save the world, and he figures that as he doesn't have a formal accepted name, and she is half-elf/half-human, she doesn't have a race, so obviously, it's them the prophecy is referring to. Ar'ataya is not convinced, but she agrees to help him at least make it to the capital so they can be tested by the council and see if they are destined to save the world.

And that's about as far as teenage me got on the story; maybe someday I'll go back to it. :)
