So, a friend of mine helped me develop my jellyfish people a bit, and let me tell you.

A PROPER creative complement to you is insane. I'm awful at creature design w.r.t. new and original creatures. Maybe not awful, but certainly not AMAZING. What I can do though is describe locations, cultures, and politics super fucking well.

So this friend and I sat at a bar, with him sketching out concepts for my jellyfish people, and me just going off and improvising descriptions of places in his eldritch horror setting that he was struggling with.

It genuinely was like, the most affirming thing ever to have my skills at narration complemented, AND ALSO to have him engage with my world and help design the jellyfish people.

Is this what like, those old clubs of authors and worldbuilders felt like? Just mutually engaging with eachother's worlds and stories? It's fucking amazing.

Just brainstorming out here, but in the great jellyfish discussion of 2025, my friend suggested that the bell of the jellyfish be integrated into the vestigal elven head midway up the face, and like... I'm just blown away at that still. I had been trying to include eyes.

And then he went off describing how their vestigal mouth could be just... slack jawed and open, with jellyfish flesh slowly growing over it generation by generation.

I'll maybe write out a post detailing them tonight, because I finally have a concept that feels... decent???

Also need to make their conscript's vibe at least. Not a whole language, but just like... how do they put together words, since they must be able to make it with tentacle shapes and bioluminescence in combination, in order to sign it to eachother.

And don’t get me started on designing the race itself
