The Starmaker and the Hand of God
They say that if you indulge in a treat from the outdoor café at Fallen Angels Wildlife Sanctuary, you might be accosted by a quokka inexplicably wearing a bowtie and smiling at you despite being a bit of a bastard. This quokka, named Aziraphale by the staff, is quick to rummage through any bags left unattended by visitors in hope for a tasty morsel or three, and never shows any remorse when caught by one of his carers. You'll usually find him shadowed by a flying fox with damaged wings and a permanent scowl. When asked why the flying fox seems to stalk the quokka, the staff will shrug and say "That's just Crowley, he's decided his mission in life is to follow Aziraphale around and cause us nearly as much trouble as him. We don't know why; it's just ineffable."
Madame Tracy and Sergeant Shadwell
Another Aussie!Omens characterisation! Starring the fabulous Madame Tracy as a pink Galah and Sergeant Shadwell as a Wombat.
Galahs are bright and hilarious parrots, full of Sass and character, I think they're a perfect fit for our lady. I'm thinking she was a loved pet surrendered to the wildlife sanctuary after her old owners passed on. She likes to follow the grumpy old Mr Shadwell around the park despite his grumbling.
Wombats are tenacious creatures, with a rock hard ass that they can use in self defence to squash the skulls of predators against the roof of their burrows as they try to chase them. Mr Shadwell ("The Sergeant" as nicknamed by carer Newt) is a notorious hard ass in both body and soul. He was rescued after contracting mange, a common and deadly issue in wombats and now lives somewhat happily at the wildlife sanctuary. Visitors and staff often find him being shadowed by the cheeky resident Galah, Madame Tracy, and despite all his grumbling he always looks grumpier when she isn't there.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on the newest additions to my Aussie AU! Not only do I love these characters I love drawing them and don't want to throw myself out a window trying to sketch them.
Hastur and Ligur - Aussie!Omens AU
Been thinking more about my Aussie!Omens AU and have been looking into what Aussie animals would suit other characters, and lo and behold how perfect it was to come across a native Aussie gecko species called the Chameleon Gecko!
Hastur was pretty easy with the Australian Green Tree Frog, also known as White's Tree Frog and the Dumpy Tree Frog which is frankly, hilarious. And rude. Scientists have no chill.
Excuse my crude sketches, I clearly have not drawn frogs and geckos before and wanted to get some ideas on how to characterise animals that don't have hair. Don't think too hard about how they might wear scarves or gloves or my incredible inconsistency. Once more developed I can make some proper digital art for them!
"Dream about whatever it is that you like best, my dear."
Self Portrait
Catch me out here trying to growing out a semi-permanent box dye red hair for the last three years.
Very unpracticed in photoshop colouring and sketching so hopefully can redo this one day!
Inspired by @mrghostrat to add some good old fashioned Aussie flair to the boys! Aziraphale as a Quokka is done to death I KNOW stop yelling. But to try and do something a bit different for Crowley I decided to go with the Grey-Headed Flying Fox, the goodest winged boi to ever exist. They can be intimidating with their large wingspan and bat-like appearance, but they're just big sky puppies, really, which I thought suited Crowley really well! They're also massive nuisances which I thought suited Crowley even more.
I've been picking up my pencils again for the first time in years so I hope to keep improving, I'm loving Aussie!Omens!
Thank you Ghost Rat for the continued inspiration to get back into art <3
