Title: Alarm Clock

Ring ring. 

Weiss opened her eyes to the alarm clock before lazily sitting up and rubbing the sleepiness out of her eyes. She let the alarm clock continue ringing. 

It's funny. A couple years ago, she would've been out of bed and inside the washroom within those few scant seconds she wasted. She used to be so efficient with her morning routine, not exactly by choice but more from a controlling father's whims: wake up, wash up, eat light, go to work, repeat. But ever since she moved to Patch, all she wanted to do after waking up was to return to the warm embrace of her soft bed. 

She could still do that actually. 

After all, that alarm clock wasn't for her. 

"Ruby, you're going to be late for school!" 

"Whaaat?!" 

The comforter lifted off from her right side as a confused Ruby immediately sat up, a sleeping blindfold on her face. Tearing the fabric off, Ruby panickily glanced around before looking over at a sweetly smiling Weiss. 

 "...very funny, Weiss. We haven't been at Beacon for years," Ruby gloomily said as she sank back into bed, pulling the comforter over her. 

A giggle to Weiss's left side let her know that Penny was awake, and Weiss met the other girl's mischievous eyes as they waited for the inevitable outcome. 

The bedroom suddenly exploded with a flurry of petals, a red blur jumping out of bed and towards the bathroom - all the while yelling.  

"I'm a teacher!!!"

As Ruby was rushing to get ready for her duties at Signal, Penny reached over Weiss with a playful smile and silenced the alarm clock. 

"You really can be a real imp, Penny," Weiss quietly laughed as she heard the muttered curses coming from the bathroom. 

"I don't want to hear that from the person who spontaneously went along with it," Penny laughed and wrapped her arm around the other girl. 

... 

"So when do you think she'll noti-" the redhead asked conspiratorially before the bathroom door was kicked open. A very grumpy Ruby with sopping wet hair and half-placed makeup on her face glared at the two.  

"...It's the weekend." 

"Aha...whoops," Weiss glanced away, smiling. 

Penny only giggled. 

“Ahhhhhh!” 

With a loud battlecry, Ruby dove straight into bed tackling the laughing pair.

was thinking about your talk of penny representing hope, and then realized it could probably be back-traced through v4-6 too: the fight vs tyrian(ends in victory, but not without qrow getting poisoned) -> penny's core recovered(she's back home, but still dead), beating the nuck(a victory, then recovery time for qrow) -> penny gets reactivated(though her body's likely still a work in progress), the battle for haven -> penny becomes defender of mantle, beating the leviathan -> we see penny again

Huh, yeah when you put it that way it’s pretty interesting. And we can even go back to v3, where Penny’s death is also when despair takes over. It’s all downhill from there.

Then v4 to v6 is a rebuilding of everything, the heroes are scattered and lost much like Penny is... scattered (in four pieces, much like the four heroes, and yes at this specific point I am reading into it too much).

Anyways, it’s about recovering and rebuilding, figuring out what they can do and why there’s still hope. And with exactly those points you pointed out, I honestly wouldn’t even be surprised if the timeline matches up for some of this, though we’ll probably never know.

And of course, the goal of getting to Atlas is finally reached in v7. That’s a pretty hopeful thing too, and that’s when Penny returns.

It’s not quite as clear as v8′s hope symbolism (partially because we don’t actually see Penny for a lot of it), but it’s interesting nonetheless.

That's a lot of questions, so I'll be putting the answers under a cut!

2 - what are everyone's fashion tastes?

We don't really have distinct fashion tastes, honestly. There's only two things there which is that null doesn't care as much about fashion and I care a little more, and for a few weeks the new leather jacket we bought was a front trigger for me.

7 - how long have you known you're part of a system? has it taken other members a longer or shorter time to come around?

About 1.5 years now I think? Mostly there's one member who has the most amnesia barriers and it took a while to even realize she was there because of said amnesia barriers.

8 - what was the discovery process like for you?

It was a fairly simple process, mostly we learned about systems from talking to systems and then at one point null (jokingly) thought "what would [name] do", and got a very clear answer. From that point on it was pretty clear what was going on.

9 - what do you feel your origins are, if you feel comfortable sharing?

We don't really have any word for what our origins are, and also aren't especially interested in figuring it out. We just are, that's all.

14 - what is religion and spirituality like for your system, if applicable?

Mostly we're all atheists, but I do have a bit of a connection to the values of the way of flame. I've talked a bit about it, but some of the values of my source religion are still very important to me now, even if the beliefs are not relevant to me at this point.

17 but inverted - are there any human members?

We have a shared body identity which does include being human, and our protector is Literally Just Some Guy (except not really, but that's a whole other matter) so he's probably human. Sort of.

18 - do you have introjects? if so, where do they come from?

Yep, I think I'm a pretty obvious one myself, mainly my source is the idw1 continuity. And then there's sari, her source is transformers animated.

23 - do you wish you had more or less members, or are you happy with what you've got now?

We're happy with where we're at.

24 - how active are your other members? who's around in headspace the most? who fronts the most? who's dormant, if anyone?

We don't really have a headspace, it would take us effort to maintain and it's honestly not really important to us. Pretty much everyone (unless their role involves being less active) spends a decent amount of time in front.

32 - how has your system changed over time?

Mostly we've stopped consciously trying to work on things like headspace or co-consciousness, which has led to both of those things being... well, less of a thing. Aside from that though, not much has changed.

36 - name your favourite quality of all the members you can think of, including yourself.

Favourites are always a very very difficult thing for us, so I'm going to stick with just something I like without trying to define that as the absolute favourite. sari is always very sweet and cares about her friends a lot, null always tries their hardest to do the right thing, our protector is very kind, and I'm good at analysis :]

Nautica beloved! Great ask! Thoughts under the cut.

She gets a high score on fruity because her queerplatonic polycule is just really really such a fruity thing to do. How many characters have two girlfriends and four boyfriends? Not many. Now neither does Nautica by the end of the story but that's not her fault, and at least she still has half of them.

Tragic backstory is like... okay it's not that tragic but it's still a little tragic that she was dealing with all of the Theater Kids who were just mean to her for not being a theater kid.

Divorced... well, again, not really her fault but I would say there's two cases of divorce and two cases of widowed. Rung counts as both divorced and widowed because she's forgotten him. Skids counts as divorced because she chose to undergo a procedure that removed all of the love she felt for him (she didn't know it would do that, but still).

Her three dead boyfriends are a big part of the trauma x1000.

She has 1000 tools because she does literally have the transformers equivalent of a sonic screwdriver, no other answer possible there.

Revenge and The Realization(tm) are about getting back to the guy who wasn't very clear about how the procedure would remove all of her feelings for Skids. It's also about realizing what happened to Rung which no one will ever remember but I can hope for it anyways.
