Why people wished they stayed platonic:
Elizabeth Webber and Thiago Fritz
OK SO. Ordem paranormal is a tabletop rpg that has been adapted into comics..and the comics. Did some adaptations, some understandable, some that made me submit them to this tournament.
Elizabeth Webber and Thiago had such a compelling relationship!! It was not necessarily romantic, they were both survivors of a very traumatic experience that changed their dynamic in such a big way. We get to see their relationship to each other and other changing, from Liz and Thiago being reckless and butting heads to them genuinely caring about each other, that when Thiago died, Liz kept hallucinating him, and thenhallucination of him? The hallucination was telling to Liz to take care of herself, to talk to people, while Liz herself was chosing to go off the deep end!!
Then. In the comics. As I said it takes time, we see their relationship develop in the trpg right? Well. In the comics they really push the Liz and Thiago in a traditional cishet marriage agenda </3 from they having just meet and people already going "Oh, how long have you two been married?", from a what if vision of Liz and Thiago getting married and having a child (WHO LIZ NAMED AFTER HER OWN MOTHER, WHICH IS SOMETHING I ASSURE YOU IS BAFFLING). It's just so. They should've stayed platonic. Please. Please God. Please.
Jennifer Keller and Rodney McKay
Very much had the vibe of the writers identifying too hard with McKay and wanting to give him the young, hot doctor as some sort of geek gets the girl wish fulfilment. McKay is a very flawed character but to stick him with someone who constantly seems exasperated by him and like he's never going to stack up seemed kind of cruel.
Stargate Atlantis "Missing"
HELP!
I set myself the challenge of writing a likeable Keller and I am not having a lot of luck. Despite her multi-season list of appearances, her characterization was very shallow and definitely written for the male gaze. She's social, pretty, accomplished (but not braggy), young, soft spoken, shy?, does bar tricks, quickly submits to authority, able-bodied, thin, blonde, athletic, not a member of any minority, responds 'sweetly' to male sexual advances, and mothers Rodney.
The only potentially angsty thing about her is the mention of only one parent. I feel like I'd have to completely re-imagine Keller to make her anything but a cardboard male fantasy.
So, I need help understanding what other people like about this character. I'm dying here.
