3x04

There were three things I loved about this episode:

Jenny. Everything Jenny. 

The way she interacted with the two kids broke my heart into a million pieces and somehow made me love her even more, which I didn't think was possible. Jenny speaks from her experience in such an important way. She speaks in a way that opens the door for these kids -- she's not pushing, not telling them what they're feeling, but creating an opportunity for them to feel affirmed that what they experienced was real, to know that there is a person that believes them and has been through this who's willing to listen.

And of course Jenny had already found their dad, and the way she gives voice to how limited her lens was filtered through Abbie's experience and how frustrating it is to be in that position.

Plus: "This is too good." [pulls out camera] Ahahahaha, NEVER CHANGE, JENNY.

There could be so much more here -- and there better be more, show, I have my eye on you -- but I definitely needed the scene where the two of them reaffirm the fact that they are moving forward in their relationship. That neither of them wants to go through another separation. That they're holding onto each other because this relationship is valuable to them both.. "We got each other. That’s all that matters."

Abbie and Pandora.

HOLY CRAP. Their interactions are just so charged, I don't even know what to do with myself. The way Pandora touched Abbie's wrist, urgh. *bites fist* Pandora is working so hard to slither her way into Abbie's mind and she's succeeding, which is terrifying.

Everything about Abbie's face during this scene -- how horrifically vulnerable she feels, physically and emotionally; her reaction to Pandora's casual account of her father's cruelty and how she had him murdered; and most of all, you can see the weight of what Abbie wants to hide. Abbie doesn't even let herself go there, that's not even knowledge that she allows into her own consciousness, because Abbie is good at not thinking about things she doesn't want to think about.

And here Pandora is, dragging it into the forefront of her mind inch by stubborn inch. UGH I CAN'T EVEN HANDLE THIS.

Low points were Crane's characterization (needlessly over the top), Betsy (pointlessness ahoy!), and disappointingly little Ichabbie in comparison with the last few episodes. (Though Abbie snooping in Crane's phone is A+, because I think that's exactly what Abbie's jealousy is like -- subtle and possibly masking as friendly nosiness, sarcastic, and full of sour looks when Crane's not paying attention.)
