I'm currently reading Because Of The Sun by Jenny Torres Sanchez, after it was sent to me by the admin of Latinosinkidlit.com. Really enjoying it so far. The protagonist, Dani, had a tense and fractured relationship with her mother, who in her eyes was not a good mother at all. But then her mother died tragically and Dani must deal with the emotional trauma that comes with that. After her mom's death, she has no choice but to go live with her aunt in New Mexico. This book is dark and bleak at times. Dani is often depressed and hopeless, reminiscent of Albert Camus's The Stranger, which inspired this novel. Eventually, Danil meets a boy named Paulo and his family who may bring a tiny bit of light into her life.
