smaugust #14 is Shiko, my lizard wizard commander in MTG
You can't just dump an entire BLOCK's worth of lore as a "this is what happened since we were last here" WotC.
JESKAI??? Hello and welcome to the party!
Sorry I haven’t posted in a while
Don’t get distracted by the giant weevil.
Narset: Jeskai Warrior - Kevin-Glint
another cultural detail in Tarkir: Dragonstorm Episode 1
the opening mentions the tea house was run by a woman who had 3 husbands. this isn't just a polyamorous character– polyandry is normal in Tibetan culture, though not really common anymore. and i think it makes sense that Tibet would be one of the cultures that Jeskai borrows from.
The building, which was often the first or last stop for anyone coming from or venturing to the Salt Road, slouched on the lip of the fishing village surrounding Dirgur Lake Monastery. In years past, it'd been a much smaller establishment, operated by an elderly monk who'd forsworn her vows for a raucous triptych of husbands—a tea house with ambitions. What’s your favorite three-color combo in MTG?
I’ve seen a few polls for favorite guild, and I thought it would be neat to make one for favorite shard/clan. I would really appreciate if you decide to reblog; I’m a pretty small blog, and I’d be curious to see what the wider MTG Tumblr community thinks.

As a devoted Jeskai fan, what were your feelings about them reclaiming their heritage out of curiosity?
I've been delaying answering this because it's basically an essay mixed with fan fiction... I'm going to copy some of my thoughts from my original post.
Okay so the Jeskai on Tarkir are represented by three colors of mana:
White: Compassion, Order, Community Blue: Intellect, Cunning, Knowledge Red: Action, Creativity, Passion/Emotion
When the Dragonlords eleminated the Khans, Ojutai reformed the Jeskai in his image, REMOVING RED MANA from the Jeskai.
What must it have been like when the revolution started again, to move from strict doctrine and adherence to the martial and scholastic ways of your predecessors to be encouraged to be creative? What must it have been like to have been freed from the strict histories and encouraged to seek new knowledge?
What must it have been like to go from isolationist martial artists and scholars to adding PASSION. CREATIVITY. ACTION. They could definitely fight. But now they had a reason. They could fight FOR themselves.
Not only could they fight, but imagine the sheer joy that would come from being allowed to be CREATIVE and IMPULSIVE for once! Imagine the sheer RAGE one might feel once they learned that the drive to innovate, to TAKE ACTION, to be impulsive had not just been discouraged, but had been TAKEN FROM YOU BY A TYRANT.
Imagine the swelling of emotion of fury within the academic martial artists as they incorporated red mana and all that came along with it BACK into a culture, never having known that it was once part of your heritage until recently.
If I were the enemy of the Jeskai at that moment, I'd be terrified of what would be coming my way.
I actually had this come back up in my suggested videos on youtube music recently, and it actually pretty well illustrates the Vibe.™
Unification through understanding. Unification in direct, decisive action. Action informed by knowledge.
The Jeskai Way.
