THIS IS JESS PAUL, JANUARY 2020: “Starting the year CREATIVELY”
This past month was 31 days of ART. While Jess was shooting horror feature film “Fang” in Chicago, she piled up some creative content centered around her painting, digital design and running an Etsy store.
ABOVE: “Painting my suitcase HOURS BEFORE I get on the plane!” [1/27/20] This video went mini-viral in the art community (mini-viral=better than TIJP’s other art videos...) as Jess built the suspense about what she’d be rolling around national airports for the rest of her life... should she be proud or embarrassed to watch this come down the conveyor belt every time she’s in a new city??
"Girl photoshops herself into a "jelicle" from CATS The Movie Musical" [1/20/20] While on location in Chicago, Jess filmed a fresh walkthrough of how to turn yourself into nightmare-fuel from CATS the movie musical sensation. Is it really that scary?? Tell us in the YouTube comments!
“Etsy 101: How to create an online art store from scratch” [1/13/20] Need some help on your own Etsy store, or trying to decide if you want to start on a creative endeavor? Jess breaks down the basic steps from the very beginning on how she started her own shop.
“This "Jesus Cat" painting just went VIRAL... and I don't know why 😶” [1/6/20] To kick off the year, Jess broke an unsolved mystery of how her art went semi-viral (that’s more viral than mini-viral: about 10k views) on Reddit. She simply doesn’t know who posted it or what sub/r it was posted to! Help us solve the mystery by adding to the clues in the comment section.
TIJP ON YOUTUBE: MONTH-IN-REVIEW Instead of saturating the newsfeed on JessPaul.net with weekly video uploads, in 2020 we’ll be posing one big month-in-review for anything you missed at the beginning of every new month. Want to stay more on top of the uploads? Follow Jess on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or most importantly, “This Is Jess Paul” on Youtube to watch her vids as they’re actually happening.
CHANGES TO YOUTUBE.COM
Hello, Jess Paul Nation!
If you’ve had your finger on YouTube’s pulse recently, you might be aware of big stories including the “Adpocolypse of 2017″ as well as most recent changes to the YouTube Partnership Program. If you need a rundown of either, pause here to watch Phil DeFranco’s breakdown from 0:00-7:50>>
All caught up? Cool! Let’s move on...
By now, you might’ve guessed that I’m about to explain that I got one of these “eviction notices” from the YouTube Partnership Program. Two of them, actually: one for WreckedRadio and one for my currently updated channel, ThisIsJessPaul.
Now, I’m one of those YouTubers, as Phil described, who’s absent enough from posting regular or popular content that I haven’t been paid for my videos for some time. My sorrow upon getting these letters was not about money. I was proud, for so many years, to be a member of the YouTube Partnership Program upon the height of Wrecked Radio, a 5-year project that I built from my bedroom and was so proud to represent. The acceptance into the YPP was an acknowledgment that I had achieved success on the platform.
Where We Go From Here As did small YouTubers everywhere, many still building their channels, responded angrily or sorrowfully over this change, I’m not here to lament or throw shade at the big corporation. I’m here to inform and encourage.
I will still be uploading content when I have it despite no more possibility of revenue, because... I love what I do. And with any obstacle, there are paths around to the other side. If you are a YouTuber still active on your channel, take the advice Phil gave in that video segment and use YouTube as a propellant to make your money elsewhere whether it be Patreon, merchandise or other creative avenues that support a bigger brand outside of your Youtube presence.
