I mean, in theory it's not a terrible idea. The sweet + salty flavor combination and all that.

See, I think at heart that’s the problem of why they’re not good, because they don’t have enough of either. The chocolate is basically flavorless and the crackers aren’t salty enough to add tang.

This reminds me of the chocolate-covered potato chips one company (Lays?) sold a couple Christmases ago. They were ridiculous and I loved them. Not sure a cracker would have the same appeal though

Yeah, see, I didn’t immediately judge them because I was like “Well, but I liked chocolate covered potato chips.” But they.......are not that.

The cycle of fandom weirdness is for sure eternal but the particular flavor of weirdness this go-around, with a set of teenagers/20-somethings apparently deeply devoted to reproducing their parents' internet filter for everyone, is extra odd bc the motive doesn't seem all Jesus-y like it did when I was a teenager lying about my age to read bad fic in 2000. But idk, it's all weird

look i mean the argument IS that it’s the so called ‘evangelical christianity with a woke liberal hat’ or w/e. like the hypocrisy alone i guess merits some questioning but also functionally is it all that different from the fanfic.net/LJ/earlier listserv stuff that LED to ‘don’t like don’t read’/ ‘warning: slash’ being things in the first place?

For the book asks: 4, 6, 20!

okay so funny story: in reading this ask i discovered that i have a very similar previous ask from you which i apparently didn’t answer. rude! so i searched my ask memes tag and discovered that i posted this same book ask meme 4 months ago, you asked me about 4, 6, and 12 that time, and i did make a post in response to you but didn’t do it from my ask box so that’s why your ask is still in there. anyway i just want to congratulate both of us on our incredible consistency!!

i’m going to skip 4 because it hasn’t changed in the last 4 months, lol. there’s that consistency for which i am so well known.

6. what books have you read in the last month? i reread both six of crows and crooked kingdom at the beginning of the month when i was stuck at home sick for ten days. i had been wanting to reread them for a long time but was making myself wait until i had some uninterrupted time to focus on them, because i knew i would just want to read them through in one sitting and that doesn’t work if i have to go to sleep or do my job. that went amazingly and i highly recommend shirking your responsibilities and reading them back to back. 

after that, i read turtles all the way down, the john green book from last year about a girl with pretty serious OCD. i was diagnosed with OCD as a kid and really struggled with it for a couple years (before it somehow magically cleared up), and i always feel really drawn to accurate depictions of that kind of anxiety (see also: fun home). there are some things about john green books that bug me but i liked this one for the most part; it had interesting things to say about mental illness, excessive self-reflection, relationships (parent-child, platonic, and romantic), and healing.

next was a non-fiction book called islamophobia and the politics of empire by deepa kumar, which explores us imperialism under both liberal and conservative leadership and traces the origins of anti-muslim prejudice and how it has manifested over time. i appreciated the detail into how islamophobic policy has been similar under democratic and republican presidents, since liberals tend to talk about how dubya is a war criminal but keep mum about obama’s imperialism.

currently i’m reading katie heaney’s second memoir, would you rather?, about discovering she’s gay in her late 20s. katie heaney (who wrote the “reading between the texts” series for the hairpin back in the day) is one of my favorite writers, so funny and introspective, and this book in particular is speaking to me a lot as a bi woman who also is coming out and trying to figure this out as an adult and feeling a bit behind.

20. what are things you look for in a book? i think the #1 thing i look for in a book at this point in my life are women who are realistic and human. i have so incredibly little patience for the way most male authors write women these days. i also am many times more likely to read a book if i have heard that there are lgbtq characters. i like books that are thoughtful about mortality and the concept of the self, and i’m drawn to sff that reimagines how society could be organized or what could be important to people. i like narratives that are reflective of my own experience, but i also like being completely drawn in to an experience that i could never have.

1. Book you’ve reread the most times?

I don’t actually reread books too often! Probably one of the Harry Potter books, or Beloved. Have read that one at least 4 times over the past 15 years, which is a lot by my standards.

6. What books have you read in the past month?

Calendar-month: The Princess Diarist by Carrie Fisher, My Favorite Thing is Monsters, Vol. 1 by Emil Ferris, The Wildings by Nilanjana Roy, Fever Dream by Samanta Schweblin, and Delicious in Dungeon, Vol. 1 by Ryoko Kui. If we’re talking the last 30 days, add Autumn by Ali Smith to the list. :)

14. Do you ever mark/dog ear books you own?

Rarely! I used to dog ear books but not so much any more. old train tickets are my bookmark of choice these days. I definitely used to write in books I was studying in college, though. And you can certainly find some scribbles in my copy of Les Mis...

TURNS OUT there’s an entire list on Wookieepedia of “Star Wars equivalents to real-world objects”! “Slideramp” doesn’t have its own entry, so I can’t confirm its exact canon bona fides, but it’s on Wookieepedia and I didn’t have to make it up myself and that’s good enough for me.

It’s definitely 80% of the reason I voted early and at this specific polling place, tbh. That and it’s literally on my way to work.

I have had very similar things happen when companies decided to change their systems. Why would you randomly assign security questions and answers? Who honestly thinks that’s a good idea? Still not sure how I managed to get back into one site.

I mean, I guess it would be pretty secure if my answer to the question “What is the name of your best friend?” was a random five-digit number, which is what the site assigned me. Either that or I have been issued a new robot best friend.
