I am DEEPLY offended that the jessixcase family au was left out of the list, so I'm going to demand you tell everyone else about it 💙

I am also deeply offended that I forgot to add them to the list! Especially because it’s one of my favorite AUs!

This is a No Order 66 AU (and Hardcase doesn’t die on Umbara) where the clones win the war and start to integrate into society. Jesse, Kix, and Hardcase are an established throuple and end up being given an apartment (or renting, but I like the idea of them just being gifted a whole ass apartment). Kix remains active, choosing to further pursue his medical studies and becomes a surgeon on Coruscant. I can’t remember if Jesse and Hardcase pursued jobs, but I’m pretty sure Jesse stayed active with the military to help Rex and Cody. Either way, not super important to this AU.

What IS important is that they adopt two baby clones before the Kamino facility gets shut down. One of them is a little older, 4 years, and the other is still barely a year old-ish.

Meet Cosmic (Coz) and Vi.

Coz is a proud, fiercely loyal kid with blond hair (like his Uncle Rex) and heterochromia (one hazel, one violet eye). Vi looks nearly identical to Kix, even more so when he gets older and cuts his hair the way his daddy does during the war.

(Note: Kix is Daddy, Hardcase is Papa, and Jesse is Buir.)

Anyway, I could actually gush about them forever, so I’ll just post a little snippet of stuff that we’ve talked about in the server about them because this family makes me so incredibly happy and we don’t talk about them enough.

Kix comes home from work in the morning and falls asleep on the couch with his baby while he and his older brother watch cartoons.

He gets them some breakfast and then lays down. Vi abandons his breakfast and crawls up onto the couch with his daddy and falls back asleep with him. (Vi is the cuddle bug of the family).

Jesse wakes up to feed them and finds Coz sitting on the floor with a box of cereal in his lap and Kix sound asleep to the sounds of Blue's Clues and Vi faceplanted in his chest.

Coz  quietly waves and whispers, "Hi, Buir!"

Jesse's heart melts and he sits down next to Coz, asks if he can have some cereal, and Coz passes him the box. Jesse eats a handful and asks Coz if he wants anything else for breakfast

Coz just grins and leans against his side. "I want eggsssss."

Jesse snorts and hugs him. "Eggs? I can do that."

He turns to try and prod Vi awake because he shouldn't be sleeping that late, but he whines and buries further into Kix, which stirs Kix. Kix is exhausted, but he sits up with him and tells him he has to eat breakfast. Vi agrees, but only if Kix stays with him. So, Kix, tired, sits through breakfast, though he's thankful for a hot, Jesse-made meal and stumbles into bed with Hardcase after Jesse gets the boys started for the day. A hot meal with his babies, some sweet kisses from Jesse, and a cup of his favorite (non-caffeinated) tea goes a long way toward healing the stress of an overnight shift, and a nap with Hardcase is a perfect way to finish it.

Kix asks if he should wake Hardcase and Jesse shakes his head.

"He was up late. I can handle the boys and take them out for a few hours. Besides, you know he sleeps better if you're with him."

Kix just smiles. He feels bad because his job doesn't allow a lot of room for switching schedules, but he is always happy to crawl into a nice cool bed in a room darkened by blackout curtains with one of his favorite people.

Hardcase/Jesse/Kix? I can't stop thinking about how Hardcase goes quiet when ppl tease him. Maybe Kix notices and Jesse says sorry? Thank you ^^

(Yes! It’s a shame that this side of Hardcase often gets ignored, so I was happy that I got the chance to explore it)

Kix isn’t a great talker; even when they’re all gathered together at 79’s, sharing a nice drink, he prefers listening rather than actually participating in the conversation. He doesn’t do it out of malice, he just likes it.

This “distance”, so to speak, allows him to notice certain things. Nothing too big, just some small details that he would’ve missed otherwise.

Thanks to this, he’s discovered something very interesting: despite his bubbly exterior, it takes very little for Hardcase to get quiet, almost closing off. He doesn’t take being made fun of well, which is something that unfortunately happens quite frequently; even if the jab is made in jest, it’s sad to see Hardcase trying not to show how much it hurt him. He doesn’t deserve it.

Kix needs to do something about this.

 He goes to find Jesse.

He’s not hard to find: he often tends to stay at the refectory longer than he should, mostly because he gets stuck speaking with his vode that he barely notices the passage of time. As soon as he spots Kix, he smiles at him - that large smile of his that makes Kix’s heart flutter - and he waves at him.

“Hey Kixie! Come here!” he calls him. Well, that’s exactly what Kix wants to do, so he approaches him, not sitting down, however.

“Can we talk?” he simply says. Jesse sends him an interrogative gaze.

“What is it?”

“In private.”

“… Ok,” Jesse mutters, getting up to follow him outside. Did something happen?

 Once they’re out, Kix corners him against the wall.

“You need to talk to Hardcase,” he immediately says.

“Did something happen to him?” Jesse asks, worried.

“No he’s fine… mostly,” Kix replies, looking at Jesse with an unimpressed gaze. “You need to apologize to him.”

“Wait, what? What did I do?”

“Jesse, don’t you realize that all those jabs at him hurt him?” Kix sighs. “Because of you he’s sulking in the barracks, I just saw him.”

“But it was a joke! I never meant to hurt him,” Jesse defends himself. “He has to know I don’t really mean half the shit I say.”

“Even if he knows, if you keep repeating that stuff of course he’d begin doubting it.” Kix pauses. “C’mon, you have to stop with this, he’s getting seriously upset.”

“I had no idea…” Jesse mutters, more to himself than Kix, then he raises the gaze towards the other. “You said he’s in the barracks?”

Kix nods, and with that Jesse is off, no even waiting for Kix to catch up.

“Wait, Jesse! Wait!”

 When Jesse arrives to the barracks, he finds Hardcase exactly how Kix has described him: sulking on his bunk. He mustn’t have noticed Jesse’s - and Kix’s - arrival. Jesse sighs, beginning to walk his first steps towards him.

It’s now that Hardcase notices that he isn’t alone anymore; he looks surprised.

“H-Hey! What are you doing here?” is the first thing he says.

“I could ask you the same thing,” Jesse replies, looking at him better. He truly looks sad, hugging his knees like that, even though he’s clearly trying to give off a happier vibe. Still, it’s nice of him to move out in order to leave some space for him and Kix to join him, which they do.

As they’re sitting down, Kix sends Jesse a gaze that is very eloquent in its silence. Don’t fuck up, it says; Jesse has no intention of doing that.

 There’s still one problem, though: how is he supposed to go about it? Maybe it’s better if he’s direct about it, without going around the issue.

“Hey…” he begins, sliding his hand over the one Hardcase’s resting on his knees. “Look, I’m sorry I made you feel bad. I spoke without thinking.”

He begins caressing Hardcase’s hand with his thumb.

“You’re not dumb and I shouldn’t have said that, even as a joke, and I promise that I’ll try my best to shut up instead of saying hurtful things,” he continues. “Okay?”

 Instead of replying, Hardcase launches himself at him, which has the unfortunate consequence of making both of them fall on the ground - thank the Force Hardcase has the bottom bunk and not the top one, or else they could’ve gotten seriously injured. Jesse lands with an oof, but he can’t find it in himself to complain when Hardcase’s keeping him so close in his arms.

“Thank you,” he mutters, head buried against Jesse’s chest, then Hardcase turns towards Kix, “And you too.”

“I didn’t do anything,” Kix lies, but by the look Hardcase gives him it’s obvious that he doesn’t believe him. What can he say? They’re all extremely bad liars.

He raises his eyebrows at Hardcase however, when he stretches a hand towards him. “What?”

“Come join us,” Jesse, who has understood what Hardcase wants to do, says.

“On the ground?”

“Yup,” both Hardcase and Jesse reply, in unison.

“Why not on the bed?” Kix asks, but it’s too late: he’s already been grabbed and dragged on the ground, joining the two di’kute in a cuddle pile.

 Oh well, it’s not like he can be mad at them, can he?

He hears them laugh, and soon he can’t help but to join in himself.

No, he can’t be mad at all.

Summary:

It’s not often that Kix has a problem—not for very long, at least. Because Kix can often solve his problems expediently and with minimal fuss, even if it pains him to do so.

But.

Hardcase knows Jesse and Kix are meant to be a thing. It's true, right? They're just meant to be. So it's his mission, he thinks, as best friend, to help them get there while neither meddling too much nor ruining all of their friendships.

So he plans. He's sneaky about it—or at least he thinks he is. No one ever calls him out on his making sure they spend time as much time as they can together, or his mild suggestions that Oh hey, Jesse mentioned wanting to see that holofilm if anyone managed to get their hands on it, and Kix has been looking for a new razor, I thought you could give this to him as a surprise! No one ever tells him to calm down or step away, let them work it out on their own. Instead the others roll their eyes and smirk and smile and let him get on with it, and he winks as if they're in on the joke.

Well, anyone can see those two are perfect; he's certain they understand.

It's however many years in the future, long, long since the end of the fighting and the pain and the death, that Hardcase blinks in surprise.

There's a sleep-weighted arm flung around his waist and a nose in his neck, a thigh a shin and a knee tucked between his legs, a bedroom all around him growing warm under the light of the morning sun. He wonders, then, at the obliviousness of his former self, and just when it was that right under his nose his best friends switched his plan of two to three.
