I watched jesus camp (the documentary from 2006) for the first time today. and one of my first feelings was disgust and horror. it's like being forced to look in a mirror and child you stares back, showing you just how fucked up it all was and how indoctrinated you were. a thought I had while watching was "damn we got robbed of a childhood didn't we?"

What are some documentaries you like?
Oh maaaaan. There was one I watched recently called Harvest of Shame, from 1960, and was a certified Murrow classic (also fun fact, him and walter cronkite had a duel. Deadass, duel.). That one slapped bc it was very, very close to my hometown and explains to this day some of the disparity poc face in an agricultural economy, neoslavery basically.
Grey Gardens is a classic and I feel like I'm always living in it. On the verge of economic collapse and trying to be glam about it. Nasty mansion that houses ghosts of aristocracy. Also the complete icon that was little edie.
Jesus Camp rocked me to my core when I watched it in HS. That's when I was heavily deconstructing myself and seeing that these kids were my age when they were filming was a shocker. Like, I behaved like the kid that commanded the ball to get a strike in Jesus' name. It's unfortunately relatable but still fun to laugh at.
Haven't watched in many years, but I also watched Whore's Glory when I was in HS and fundamentally shaped how I viewed sex work/workers. It's one I'm scared to revisit.
Also, the unauthorized bts movie that Josh Brolin made i revisit from time to time just because it's silly and I like to see people goofing around on the set.
ALSOOOO really looking forward to watching the new Paul Reubens doc Pee-Wee as Himself. I NEED TO SEE IT,,, RAT NAO (texas accent).
