Dobson wasn’t the only evangelical creep who was obsessed with beating small children on a private area, that’s the standard for people who worship patriarchal hierarchy. He wasn’t even the worst, the Pearls are a million times worse in terms of severity. But what Dobson did was legitimize and mainstream this way of “discipline” by abusing his credentials (even though he was going against ALL science and evidence) and his lobbying power. He didn’t just instruct parents individually to commit cold and calculated abuse rituals then tell their children that abuse is love, he advocated for laws to disempower children and protect abusers.

Through “Focus On The Family”, Dobson lobbied against America ratifying The Convention On The Rights Of The Child that affirms children have a right to having their basic needs met and freedom from violence because beating children was “religious freedom”. He pushed “Parents Rights” laws that treat children as property rather than people and allow more child abuse to occur or continue. He promoted Conversion Torture of LGBTQIA kids which is known to drastically increase suicide risk and cause PTSD (and also 100% does not work at all). He opposed Women’s Rights that help women and children escape domestic violence. We are still suffering under the abusive, heinous movement of Christian Nationalism.

Dobson dedicated his life to making the world as unsafe and torturous as possible for everyone but abusive cishet men, especially for children. That is the truth of his “legacy”.

controversial opinion but if your holy book includes your omnibenevolent god commanding his followers to indiscriminately commit genocide upon entire nations and execute other people simply for following a religion different than theirs then you're lucky i take your complaints about "religious intolerance" seriously at all

All I have atm is a (German) translation of the Bible a teacher recommended once upon a time. And I don't have the money or space for it atm 💔

i’ve read so much tradcath bullshit the last two years. i can confidently say tradcath men fit into one of two categories:

“protestant-raised and converted to catholicism because of his crippling porn addiction and racist tendencies. reposts crusader and conquistador memes. is hated in his local parish.” tradcath

“catholic-raised band kid who ate his lunches with the religion teacher. smells like mildew. cut off all his friends that came out as gay after high school. now larps as an aquinian scholar and cries after jerking off.” tradcath

He was too selfish, too scared to try. Simon knew what he deserved. He’d always known. Since Filament Station blew up, and Simon raised his bloody hands in surrender, he knew. He deserved less than that prison, the violence he was rewarded with. The prisoners had family in Filament Station, and the COI needed a punching bag. If Simon wasn’t the Butcher, if the COI cared a bit less about rules, Simon would have died there, and he would have deserved it. But despite all odds, despite the hell that Simon brought with him, he was alive. 

The Light chose him, changed him into this unrecognizable thing, used him, and then discarded him. There was a hole in his chest where his faith once lived, slowly leaking out of him through the years. Now it was a gaping, aching chasm, carved out by a sharp claw. Even if he believed God existed, any remaining shreds of his faith in it had been torn out by the maw of the blood eel and chewed into spite. Malice. He was told for so long to trust in God, to devote his life to God’s teachings, and to reshape himself into something worthy of it. Even with doubt festering under his skin, Simon had done the work. He did as he was told and was devoted to the cause, thinking that if not his belief, then maybe his loyalty, his suffering, would be rewarded one day. 

Instead of reward, retribution, or peace, Simon had been reshaped into some sort of monster. A chimeric amalgamation of haphazard and unfinished parts. Simon didn’t believe in the way that others did, but any semblance of trust, any hope he had in the otherworldly, had been violently torn from his soul the second his arm melded with the sub, bones snapping, tissue stretching, muscles screaming as they were wretched apart. God was in the sky, an eye casting its judgment down on him. God did not love him and did not care and would watch as he was dragged down into the belly of the beast. 

An ignorant god. A sad, reverent voice whispered.

It brought him here, and it did not care if he lived or died. Sure, it got him out of his universe, and, in a way, it did save him, but without Ryland, Simon would have just become part of the blood ocean, suffocated in his iron prison, agroglobin blistering into his flesh, tearing him apart piece by piece. God did not save him. 

Dr. Ryland Grace did. 

And that strange man wanted Simon to live. Where he was expendable to God, he was needed by Ryland, and wasn’t that something? Simon could do nothing but hold those words in a clenched fist close to his chest and study the one person who gave a damn about him, for a reason Simon couldn’t quite wrap his head around. A bleeding heart? Attraction? Selfishness? Ryland said it was selfish, but Simon thought it might be more… fear. Fear of being alone. 

Simon felt himself watching Ryland, studying him still, his weary blue eyes, the bruises on his neck, the downward slope of his shoulders. He wasn’t searching for any active threats anymore, signs of deceit. Simon still felt he had to keep an eye on him, but not for fear of his own safety. It was more that Ryland was unpredictable. Reckless. Prone to disaster. He tripped constantly, so clumsy that Simon recalled Ryland telling him other children had called him ‘Not-so’ for his lack of grace despite his second name. 

Ryland wasn’t a threat anymore. Simon wasn’t stupid enough to make an enemy out of an ally if he could help it. They were the only two humans for 11.5 light years, apparently. They had to stick together. Comradery was something Simon had missed since he left Eden. He was a bit rusty on his skills at it, but Simon had always liked that aspect of Eden. His brothers. Their shared community and trust. The bond Simon had thought had been forged through thick and thin. Simon was well aware that allies could become enemies, but even Ryland’s ‘forcing’ was a far cry from an act of betrayal. It wasn’t like he had welded him inside a death trap and sent him on a suicide mission. Ryland was… a hero and Simon had just been in the way of that.
