AN EASTER STORY- HE IS RISEN
Easter will be here soon, but I do not like to think of it as a holiday anymore to dress up and get candy in a decorated basket as I did when I was a child. Going to my home church on that celebrated morning only not to get a seat, because so many people you have not seen the whole year are now packing the pews of your church.
As I sat in the back of the church because as a member, it was only polite to let the visitors have your seat: when all the while what I took in was not the service. Big hats, patent leather shoes, designer bags, fur coats, kids talking wanting to eat their candy, adults looking at their watches wanting this service to be over so to get to that good tasting ham waiting at home.
There was also a sweet smell that is not the smell from the song “Sweet Holy Spirit”. Oh no ! that is the smell of Chanel No. 5 over splashed to cover up the night before, it was an old familiar smell of what Saturday night really smells like.
Yea I know because for so many times the smell of the dancehall mixed with the world was stuck on me. It has a very distinct odor that does not wash off so easily with soap and water. I thank the Lord that he made a way to get that smell off me and it turn purchased me a sweet perfume with an everlasting smell that is internal and lasts for an eternity.
As I learn what this day real meaning was all about, I no longer called it Easter but the Risen day of Jesus Christ, the day he shed his blood for me: which washed me clean better than any dove bar could ever do. Then he filled me with the sweet Holy Spirit. Yes, that same one that he told his disciples he had to go, so the Holy Spirit could come, to lead and guide them in all truth. (John 16:7-16)
I stopped going to Sunday morning Easter Service and start getting up at 5 am to go to the sunrise service. I figure he rose so I can rise. It was not so crowded and I had the choice of seats. There were no pretense, no big hat, or fur coats. It was only a hand full of worshipers who were there to celebrate what Jesus Christ my Savior had done for all who believed and received.
We stood in gratitude with arms high and hand waving, some with tears of joy rolling down their faces while all in unison saying thank you Jesus. There was an immensely joyous feeling of salvation because he went from the cross to the grave and from the grave to the sky.
YES HE IS RISEN!
