Jet is possibly unfamiliar to the Gem Homeworld. Since Jet is basically coal, it can only form on planets in which there is organic life to be fossilized. As such a Jet gem would most likely be considered a defect, since they were probably supposed to form into a different gem entirely, but became Jet instead due to exposure to organic matter during their formation.
