Please Excuse My Dope Ass Swag
thinking about the power of jet/suki. two teenagers who’ve grown up too fast because of war, determined to protect those they love, whether a gaggle of kids or a whole island. suki beating respect woman juice into jet and jet teaching suki the benefit of a little light crime in return. just. these two bisexual icons taking on the world together... the fucking potential

When the Gaang are forced to evacuate the Air Temple and relocate to Ember Island, the prospect of a weeks-long beach vacation in the middle of a warzone is strange and unappealing to Suki and Jet. Neither one of them feels very relaxed; but it might be just what they need.
camp counselors!jetki for you this fine Sunday. I still hate drawing trees <3
Anyway I've touched on this before but I really wanna ramble about the contrasts and parallels between Suki and Jet because like. Both from a behind-the-scenes perspective and in universe (even *just* in the show but expanded canon reveals a bit more that's worth consideration) there's so much to talk about.
characters introduced in Book 1 who were supposed to be cool one-off characters for standalone episodes, but became fan favorites and returned for Book 2 (and in Suki's case, Book 3; RIP Jet 💔). Both also made their returning appearance in the same episode: The Serpent's Pass.
Earth Kingdom love interests to the main Water Tribe siblings (though Suki's romance with Sokka is considerably more successful than Jet's with Katara).
foils for Sokka who provide important guidance on his journey to leadership in different ways (Suki as an example of What To Do and how leadership ability doesn't come in just one box, Jet as an example of What NOT To Do and how Being A Leader does not automatically make someone a good leader).
tried to help after Appa was taken in the desert, at the expense of their own safety (in Suki's case her freedom and that of her warriors, and in Jet's case, his life).
leaders of militia groups sovereign from Earth Kingdom military control; despite being relatively young teenagers, both are implied to be the oldest of their respective faction and highly respected by their comrades in arms.
willing to use intimidation, manipulation and threats to achieve their goals (albeit to different extents), especially when it comes to defending their home from outsiders they deem dangerous, but also for smaller goals (Suki tricking Sokka into embarrassing himself; Jet getting Zuko to help him steal food).
despite their manipulative streak, both are also altruistic and work for the good of many (at least in their mind and in some cases materially); Suki helps the Gaang and Ying's family cross the Serpent's Pass, and in expanded canon puts herself at risk to grow food for her fellow prisoners in the Boiling Rock, and teach non-benders to defend themselves. Jet takes in orphans (most of them aren't even part of his child army, yay!) and steals food from the greedy ferry captain to feed refugees.
Suki overcomes her isolationism and takes a side, joining the war to defend the Earth Kingdom. By contrast, Jet attempts to overcome his thirst for vengeance and removes himself from the war. Both paths lead them to Ba Sing Se, where encounters with an heir to the Fire Nation lead to imprisonment.
both had their identities and connection to the Avatar used to mislead and deceive Aang and his allies (Suki's identity successfully by Azula to dupe the Earth King and infiltrate Ba Sing Se, Jet's...everything, unsuccessfully by the Dai Li to get Aang *out* of Ba Sing Se)
dual-wielding non-bending badasses with unique weapons and fighting styles
peak character design I love to draw them <3
