Honestly who lost this little goblin? Jung’s not one to judge but there were just oddity’s around and he always had the joy of encountering them, he really needed to learn to avoid situations.

🍐  :    how intelligent is my muse overall?  are they smarter than the average person,  or less than?  are they primarily self-taught,  or did they acquire most of their knowledge in school?  are they more street smart or book smart?  

hmm! i’ve touched on haku’s intelligence in the past, but it never hurts to reiterate.

haku is canonically a genius shinobi prodigy. however, in awful terrible no-good narutoland, the only intelligence that is truly measured is military intelligence. think about it: with the rare exception of, say, neij ( i believe? ), every shinobi who is considered a genius is kind of fucking stupid off the battlefield. outside of battle prowess and military strategy, there’s no consideration of other forms of intelligence. that’s why sasuke’s called a genius during the chunin exams despite not being able to confidently answer the questions on the test, while sakura and hinata -- who easily finish the exam -- are considered average.

i mention this all in order to say that haku is more than just skilled on the battlefield. haku is emotionally and socially intelligent and is definitely smarter than they average person because they’ve had to learn how to understand people in order to survive.

however, prior to joining konoha, haku’s literacy and booksmarts were both narrow and specific due to their training in the buntai corps. they could read and write, but their vocabulary was composed of common speech and highly specialized jargon. aka, haku knew the organ inside your ear is called the cochlea and knew five ways to rupture it without laying a hand on you, and they could give you a summary of all of top-tier bounties in the bingo book, but they wouldn’t know anything about, say, more advanced technology. what the fuck is a cellphone. 

haku learned how to read and write basic characters from their mother before she died, and their tutelage was continued under zabuza and by the buntai. the knowledge they have outside of the shinobi realm ( as well as some plant medicines, their clan’s techniques ) were all self-taught from stolen books and scrolls.

haku is more streetsmart than booksmart, but they are working hard to lessen the gap between the two! if anyone feels like mentoring them .... :eyemojis:

oh boy, people read haku wrong allllll the time.

the tendency to reduce them to “nice sweet cinnamonroll” is second to none. it’s something haku has come to expect, and they now use it to their advantage when necessary. more on that here.

there’s definitely truth in it. haku is a legitimately kind, nice person who cares for others and wishes for a world where violence is purposeless. they are warm and gentle and loving and compassionate!

however, haku is also a mercenary and a killer. they are deeply traumatized in ways they are still untangling. they have a higher capacity for cruelty and violence than people might expect. they are slow to anger, but when they snap, they snap. they are a neutral good, and they have done and will do things considered morally reprehensible if necessary. 

haku is also stubborn, determined, willful, and not submissive or subservient. they are devoted and loyal, but they aren’t stupid or a blind follower. haku is sharp-witted and territorial. they have an arrogant streak and can be prone to jealousy. they are spontaneous and impulsive at odd times. they struggle to tell people what they are struggling with, despite their ability to be quite blunt with others when people least expect it. they have a playful, dark, macabre sense of humor, and they are mischievous and prone to laughter. they enjoy praise and attention and will sometimes seek both in unhealthy ways. they are prone to social self-sabotage when they are feeling low. they have mental health problems. most people don’t see these sides of them, because haku is a private extrovert. it’s hard for them to let people see every part of who they are, despite their intense craving to have someone(s) to be totally vulnerable with. they’re secretive, yet generally quite honest with others; when they do lie, it’s usually in the form of undivulged information or a half-truth/omission rather than a full-on lie. tl;dr: there’s so much to haku. they’re a whole ass human being.

their reputation does matter to them! they take pride in being spoken of highly.
