Benefit of the Doubt || Jihyo & Min
Reputation was everything in this world. This was a lesson that Min had learned early on in her life. She remembered walking next to her father as a child, following him on his patrol routes, and watching as the men stopped and bowed. She remembered feeling the pride swell up in her chest as she ran after him, holding her own gun close to her side -not wanting to disappoint him in the slightest. After all, he had once told her that it was one’s actions that truly defined a person and she had taken those words to heart. Even years later when she was sure that it was that belief that had ultimately led to her father’s death as he refused to leave his post, she still believed in his words.
Even after she ran away from the Military.
Even after she became a thief and a dealer.
She still understood the importance of his words and tried her damnedest to live by them. She was sure that her father never envisioned the life of an arms smuggler for her but, at the very least, she still kept by his words. And considering the life she had chosen, there really was nothing more important than her reputation - it was what she traded on afterall.
As stupid as it might have sounded to some, she prided herself on being an honest thief. She was upfront about all her deals and if she promised a shipment, then she damn well delivered -no matter what the risk. And it was that mix of recklessness and honesty that had kept her in business for so many years despite the fact that Seoul was teeming with dealers looking to make a quick buck. But good businessmanship could only take her so far. What had kept her alive for so long was that she was one hell of a crack shot.
She always tried maintaining her business deals as civil as possible but once someone crossed her, she had no qualms about putting a bullet between their eyes. It was a dog-eat-dog world and she sure as hell didn’t expect any sympathy from anyone else. So as valuable as having a good reputation was, she knew that fear always went a long way.
That’s why she found herself prowling around the hospital for days, trying to learn everything she could about Song Jihyo - the bitch that had been ballsy enough to steal from her.
She’d been expecting a shipment of high caliber rifles that she’d promised to a contact of hers in the Firefly District when she’d heard that someone had intercepted her shipment. At first she’d laughed after hearing the news, thinking it was just some bad joke, but when her point guy started stammering nervously as he edged towards the door, she knew that things were serious.
It’d taken her days of calling in favors and chasing down leads before she got a name out of anyone. The Ace, they all called her. Song Jihyo, a drug smuggler who could get her hands on anything and had been in the business for longer than anyone could remember. The name had barely meant a thing to her. Oh, she’d heard that codename before but she’d never done business with Song. As far she could tell, there was no connection between them ...except that now it seemed that the Ace had decided to expand her business and had encroached into her business.
And there was no way she was letting that go.
She couldn’t stay in business if people thought they could just go ahead and steal from her. No. Hell no. Song Jihyo, and everyone else for that matter, were going to learn what happened to anyone that even tried fucking with her.
Cracking her neck as she stretched her stiff limbs, she quickly fell back to a crouch, hiding behind some bushes as she patiently waited for Song Jihyo to return. After stalking after the woman for days, she’d finally learned where she lived and now she was just waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike.
Recognizing Jihyo’s figure as she made her way towards the dilapidated building, Min quietly came up behind her, waiting for her to reach the entrance of the house that she knew was empty before making her move. Pressing her gun against Jihyo’s spine, she wrapped her hand around Jihyo’s mouth forcing the taller woman to bend back slightly as she spoke into her ear.
“Annyeonghaseyo,” she greeted sarcastically as she felt the woman tense before trying to squirm out of her grasp. Digging her gun Jihyo’s back, she just tutted as the woman momentarily stopped trying to throw her off. “Uh-huh, Ace, you and me are gonna have a very long chat. So how about we get inside before the neighbors start talking?,” she suggested cheerfully even as she gave the woman a slight push forward. “Wouldn’t want anyone to interrupt us, right?”
