La secuela de los Yardbirds por todos recordada es Led Zeppelin, cuando Keith Relf (su hermana Jane Relf) y Jim McCarthy fundaron Renaissance y publicaron un primer LP en 1969 producido por Paul Samwell-Smith, es decir, una reunión de tres ex Yardbirds. El precedente de la banda había sido el dúo Together, formado por Relf y McCarthy, con un único sencillo naif publicado en noviembre de 1968 que pasó sin pena ni gloria.
Ambos sentían la imperiosa necesidad de apartarse del blues rock y del proto heavy practicados por los Yarbirds en los últimos años. El resultado fue un álbum debut que es una joya del rock progresivo suave con influencias del folk y la música clásica, muy apartado de lo que venían haciendo.
“Island”, el corte que abre la cara dos tiene algo de “Something In The Air” de Thunderclap Newman, no sólo por el tempo y el riff de guitarra, sino por los intermedios instrumentales en los que manda el piano de John Hawken.
