Super pumped for the new amc series, but I also want to remind you of the gloriously gay “Lestat” the musical. If you haven’t seen it, go watch it on YouTube. The Broadway version is gayer (and in my opinion better) than the San Francisco version. Now enjoy these gifs of Lestat and Louis snuggling. 🥰🌈(Hugh Panaro as Lestat and Jim Stanek as Louis)

Fun things about Lestat: the Musical on Broadway

(Because the souvenir program photos I posted are going around again, and I’m feeling nostalgic)

– The first three times I saw it were during previews, and it had a different ending each time. The first time Marius came to rescue Lestat and sing some stuff after the Sail Me Away reprise, the second time Gabrielle filled this role, and the third time Marius and Gabrielle did the thing together.

– The song “Embrace it!” was the biggest joke among the Vampire Chronicles fandom back on Livejournal at the time. Assume that there were lots of Lestat RPers telling Louis to embrace all manner of things, often times with butt pictures attached.

– There was so much cuddling during Embrace It and at one point Louis looked like he was doing really sad jazz hands.

– During “Welcome to the New World” Louis stumbled around and made sad drunken attempts at dancing.

– Jim Stanek (Louis) also played Henry in Frankenstein the musical. There’s a cast recording of that and everybody should listen to it.

– Depending on where you sat in the theatre, the scene where Nicolas goes into the fire was either really cool, or unintentionally hilarious. If you were sitting way up in the nosebleed section then you could see the actor crouched down pretending to writhe around a few feet behind the wall of fire.

— When we first meet Marius, he is fishing, except he was legitimately just dangling a string onto a patch of blue light on the stage.

— For awhile an anthology of the first three Vampire Chronicles books was sold with the musical logo on the cover.

— One time I sat behind a group of like ten middle schoolers during the musical, and they all freaked out really loudly at the Lestat/Gabrielle kiss

— Drew Sarich, as Armand, always seemed so gleeful about killing Claudia and it was the best thing.

– speaking of Drew Sarich, he’s played vampires in three different musicals (Von Krolock in Tanz Der Vampire, Armand in Lestat, and the title character in Frank Wildhon’s Dracula.). He also went on as Lestat at least once as Hugh Panaro’s understudy, which means he’s played four different theatrical vampires. I’d like to nominate Drew Sarich for ultimate vampire musical actor.

- A creative choice was made not to use any fangs or fake blood in the musical. It was meant to emphasize the humanity of the characters.

– The cast was always above and beyond nice at the stage door. All of my best stage door experiences were from Lestat.
