You can just draw whatever you want. Remember
You can just write whatever you want. Remember
Shout out to all your internet friends who are gone.
Those messenger screen names that havenāt logged on in ages, some before detailed profiles were a thing on those services.
Those emails that are long since abandoned, some with domains that no longer exist.
Those online friends you knew years ago and who then helped shaped you in some way, who you just canāt FIND anymore.
Those people who once were, and hopefully still exist IRL, that seem to have no known internet life anymore.
And those who have actually passed on, and their online lives are now a memorial to them.
I miss you all. I hope life is/was kind to you, and maybe one day, weāll somehow connect again.
Anne, aka AcrylicDrama, from musicals.net, back inā¦2003-2005, when I was in high school. We were dear friends, chatted on AIM every night. Talked about musicals, crushes, things giving us teenage angst, our favorite shows. She liked to take photos of inanimate objects that she thought had personality, like this one fire hydrant. She loved Les Mis the most and had a huge crush on Enjolras. She was in Chicago and a few other shows.
I got a part in The Fantasticks, and I couldnāt WAIT to log on and tell her, since sheād been in that show. And we talked every day!
But she didnāt come online then. Or the day after that, or months, years now. I never heard from her again. She disappeared as if she never was. And I didnt have her last name so I couldnt even fb search when fb became a thing.
Maybe she dies. Itās the worst case scenario.
Maybe her parents took her off the internet, parents back then were paranoid about internet friendships.
But no way of ever knowing. Anne disappeared. I hope sheās still alive. I hope she performed in many musicals and danced and sang, and I hope her photos found their way toā¦galleries, or wherever photos go.
Never forgot you, Anne.
Hey, anybody from Musicals.net I havenāt talked to in ages that Iām not already facebook friends with, this is MrsJamieWellerstein/Mysterons. I was an annoying high schooler, and y'all were nice to me. It was great to have a place where what I learned later was a hyperfixation on musical theater (late diagnosed autistic what WHAAAT) was just⦠normal.
Nobody follows this blog, I just started it a couple weeks ago because nostalgia. But @caithes-blossom, I didnāt interact with Anne as far as I can recall, but I do remember the username AcrylicDrama popping up in the general group, usually involving Enjolras. At the time, I didnāt know any of the studentsā names except for Marius; those posts taught me what the hell their names were.
Musicals.net!! I was Chi. I posted A LOT between like 2002-2007.
the thing about heavy handed symbolism is that sometimes. it's fun.

So. I was watching a video about Japanese love hotels on YouTube. Funny story. When I was working in China, my school gave me the task of helping new foreign teachers book a hotel for the first several nights of their arrival. There was this āhotelā located right near the school. The rooms were bizarre and super cheap, but the placement of the hotel was just so convenient. At one point I booked fresh off the plane Canadian woman this room with a swing-set, a heart shaped bed, a jacuzzi, and a life sized Madame Tousands style wax figures of Marilyn Monroe. She seemed confused but happy, as had everybody for whom Iād booked similar rooms before. She asked me if all hotels in China were like this, and I honestly told her that I had no idea why this hotel was so weird about its decorations. A couple of days later my boss actually looked into where I was putting the new teachers and informed me of what Iād been unknowingly checking all of the teachers into a love hotel, built for the express purpose of privacy during fornication.
Send me an anonymous ask completing the sentence "I wish you would write a fic where..."
if you work in a creative field...or if you do creative hobbies like writing or drawing...you need to make friends with people who don't do those things. you need to befriend normie Steve who has never written a story in his life. and this is because when you are in a creative job or hobby and spend all your time doing that thing, surrounded by very capable people, who you inevitably compare your own progress and skills to, you forget what the baseline human skill at that thing is. and it's usually zero. normie Steve has not written a story since the 3rd grade when his teacher made him do it. he's very good at other things that are not storytelling - but if you tell normie Steve that you wrote a full 300-page book from start to finish, he will think you're some kind of savant. he does not know ANYONE else who has done this. you need this perspective. because when you're constantly on Let's Write Stories dot Com then everyone on Let's Write Stories dot Com will inevitably be like "oh of course everyone on earth has written a book or several at this point!" and you canNOT let yourself think that. that is not even close to the average human experience. you are in a bubble. do not put yourself down. do not give up.
REAL AND TRUE. my newest normie steve does 40 mile bike rides on a whim and excels at outdoor rock climbing. i will always hype him up.
You know.
I feel like.
Something Tumblr has failed to understand in its quest to become solvent.
Is that user surveys would probably help in providing things people would actually pay for!
--I would pay up to $5 a month to be able to list my crochet for sale in-app. I post the photos and information and indicate it's a sales post, Tumblr provides the "buy here" link.
--I would pay $30 a year for ad-free, but not $70.
--I would pay $1/mo to have a second user icon, and while $1/mo isn't much, it adds up. Indeed, back in the LJ days it was really common to pay for extra icons for your RP accounts so your character could "make facial expressions."
--that $70/yr? I'd pay that if it included one free Blaze per month, no ads, and three user icons.
I would pay to help keep the lights on if they gave me something I felt was worth paying for. But they don't seem to understand that payment needs to have value added, and "we're doing weird coding stuff nobody wants" is not value added.
Somebody ought to Blaze this post. Regardless of whether or not it goes forward, Staff would see it.
I would be okay with this. I'm a semi-popular blog and I'm a Jew, you can't break my notes more than they're broken already.
Also I would encourage others who may have a "this, I would pay for" wishlist to add it here. Maybe we can make some positive change.
I would pay for those things just like you said. You, you get me.
I legitimately think separating this place from other socmed by making it more user-driven would not only make Tumblr thrive, it might also push other sites back toward not being THE ALGORITHM THE ALGORITHM THE ALGORITHM all the time.
^all this sounds great, and iāll add another thing i would pay for in a heartbeat:
a one time fee to change a side blog to your main blog
please. this blog is my side blog. itās also the blog i use most actively. most people donāt know i have a different āmainā blog. most of the people i follow follow this blog, not my main one and i would very much like to have the notifs from my beloved mutuals highlighted.
also, to a lesser extent, iād pay to be able to mute/hide reblogs from certain accounts. sometimes you love a blog but would like to only see the original content from it. š¤·āāļø
basically if it was a core function from x-kit, a lot of people want it and would probably pay a subscription for it.
Half the people on the internet for some reason
So Iāve been wandering from country to country for 275 days now, and I randomly thought to myself that I miss writing and wonder if Iāll ever have the energy to do so again.
AI has made the internet so much less fun. I don't want to question whether a photo of a bunny is real. I don't want to worry about someone making a deepfake just because I posted a pic with my friends. I want to read a recipe and know that the photo is a real cake they made. Yes I know I need to touch grass but also I think I should be allowed to interact online without second-guessing whether someone fabricated every image for personal gain
I CAN'T BE THE ONLY ONE LOL
Seems facebookās auto translate is having significant problems with the title of the new Polish version of Defying Gravity?
for those who have been wondering what Iām up to these days:
How I decided to spend the next year traveling to a new country every few weeks
(tumblr is being weird about links, so you may need to copy and paste to read, rather than clicking on the URL)
