I would love to hear more about your old norse au if that's okay... the drawings look beautiful btw.
It’s totally fine! I think, whenever people ask about my story ideas that I haven’t even started writing yet, I’m just gonna spoil the whole thing. Because who knows when I’ll get around to it???
So, since I haven’t figured out much of the plot since it’s still a relatively new idea, I’ll just throw at you what I have so far. get ready for a language lesson
It’s titled Beinahrúga (bones, lit. heap of bones in Old Norse). It takes place after Into Darkness and starts within the first months of the five-year mission. It’s a simple planet survey gone wrong (only Bones, and a few BG characters): the shuttle crashes during a storm, everyone dies except for Bones, who’s injured rather badly. Natives from a nearby village (the Auðinung ætt) investigate the crash and find him. They take him in and nurse him back to health.
Viking clans were determined by sharing the same lineage, but since this society is only based on Viking culture, I’ve taken some liberties. So ætts (ætt = clan) are determined by community/village instead.
Anyway, I haven’t decided yet how he knows the Enterprise abandoned him (thinking him dead like the others), but he does, and he figures he’d try to repay the kindness of strangers while he figures out what he’s gonna do next. He falls for Lagerþa Ófeigrdottir (wow I actually paired him with a woman what’s happening), and two years later, he’s given a new name after proving himself ‘one of the Golðólfring ætt’: Leó Élson (Él means storm/hailstorm). They give him this name because he’s ‘son of the storm that brought you to us’. I briefly considered making him ‘son of none’ but that’s sad.
He marries Lagerþa and becomes fast friends with the chieftain (formaðr = chieftain) Raumr Grímrson (who’s a jolly fellow, despite the severe look I gave him in my drawing last night) and by extension, his wife, Þóra Bjálfidottir. Bones becomes the læknir of the Auðinung ætt (læknir = physician). And since I love the idea of dad!Bones, he has a son with Lagerþa, named Sólmundr Leóson. At one point they take in an abandoned, blind baby they name Friða Leódottir.
There is also Sefa Drúgrdottir (stalari = commander) and Ósk Eykrdottir (married to each other because I wanted lesbian Vikings), but I haven’t fit them into the story yet. Same with Skáldi Saxólfrson (Ætt ellri = clan elder). Skáldi Raumrson is the son of Raumr and Þóra, named after the clan elder because Raumr really looks up to the old fart and Vikings sometimes named their kids after great individuals.
Around three or four years pass and tensions between the Auðinung ætt and the Golðólfring ætt rise due to some bad history. Agnarr Húnulfrson, formaðr of the Golðólfring ætt, resents the Auðinung ætt because his late wife, Jórhildr Ósvaldrdottir, died on their land and their previous læknir couldn’t save her (this is obviously before Bones arrives). Members of the Golðólfring ætt start raids and actually set fire to Bones’ home in the night (which is a little isolated compared to the rest of the village, and he built it himself, but thankfully they put out the fire early on but not without him burning his hands). He gets furious because his wife was pregnant and he had another baby in the house and they tried to kill them.
Did I mention Bones learns how to fight? Because he does and he’s damn good.
I… haven’t figured anything else out yet. All I know is that the end game is that somehow Jim, Spock, and Nyota show up, find out he’s alive, try to convince him to come back, and basically says, “Fuck no I’ve got a wife and kids and I like it here.”
Wowie I think that’s everything. Hope this satisfies at least part of your curiosity!
