#TheUpstairsLounge was established in 1968 on Union Ave (Now MLK). Swipe to read a 1972 Oregonian article about club owner #JimBritt written on the occasion of the club's expansion. . I've been posting some vintage Portland newspaper ads recently, & people seem to be into it. One of my goals in doing this is to shine a spotlight on the Black community that's largely been pushed out of North and Northeast Portland. That hipster lounge where you're sipping craft cocktails was a successful community-based business for decades. The upscale grocery store and fancy condo building is on land that years ago was essentially taken from the heart of the Black Portland Community. . Here's a way you can support the #Portland Black community that's been hit so hard Portland's systemic racism, one aspect of which is gentrification: . Contribute to the organization @takingownershippdx . "community collective of contractors, realtors, neighbors, and businesses brought together by Portland musician, activist @randalwyattmusic .
