The Present is a Slow Vibration of the Existence (curated by Alexis Callado Estefanía)
Artists:
Abdul Vas (Venezuela, 1986), Jimena Kato Murakami (Peru, 1979), Momu & No Es (Spain/Switzerland, 1982/1979)
The artistic proposal that brings together these artists (Jimena Kato, Abdul Vas, Momu and No Es) deals with the possibility of exploring fragile balance and ambiguous zone of the art experience in perceptions of temporal and spatial oscillation in the existence.
Jimena Kato group of work created within a process-based exercise, for which she uses materials specific to the construction of architectural maquettes. These fragile and unstable works plays with gravity and preconceived spatial perceptions as a first vector and they reveal themselves as the beginning of a construction of a primary structure, an awning or a tepee. The use of slats, of lengthened shapes and soft and flexible materials enhance the graphic aspect of the works. Through her artworks, she offers an alternative perception to the viewer when it comes to considering conventional values of space and specific materials to the construction, thereby creating alternate journeys and narratives of thought.
Abdul Vas works of art are tributes to the band AC/DC. All his energy is focused on extolling, celebrating and expressing his gratitude to the legendary Australian hard rock group. The music of brothers Malcolm and Angus Young fills the him with a limitless surge of energy; an intense excitement experienced only by an unconditional fan. Through his absolute commitment defies oscillations of existence by creating a complex system where time and space are reduced to a shrill vibration. By adopting various techniques and a considered approach, Abdul creates a shared universe. He depicts a scene comprising an infinite number of signs and references that effectively point to the contemporary
Momu & No Es explore living and engaging in a world where tangible reality easily merges with a digital environment in which all elements carry equal weight. Highway consists of a video installation that induces the viewer into a trance. He is taken on a journey guided by the Highway Agency, and immersed in an alternative cosmos that the highway is leading him into. The road leads into a digital world of an empty constructed landscape with wavy patterns in the sky, road signs, Photoshop backdrop, stock-image people turning into flowers, makeup tutorials, soap bubbles, glass cleaner that is very functional for transparency, computer folders saved by giant hands from the water as only some of the elements that the passenger encounters. References are made to the road and the different ways in which we experience contemporary reality as a road trip. The project is composed by stringing images and audio together to draw a mental journey with the aim to create a reflection on the space we occupy when we circulate, and reinterprets the codes involved during the movement and interaction with others in the displaced space. For Poppositions, the artists presents an instalation made of two car glasses with reflective stickers of typical road signs, warnings, hallmarks of what the driver transports, or bumper stickers as trophies of the countries and places visited, nightclub logos, stickers of trademarks to stickers indicating the convictions and values of the driver, inspired by the aesthetic and sensuous pleasures of the digital realm. Are preconceived artistic ideas the obstacle of another way of perceiving space and time? How long can be modified the human existence thank to the artistic experience who change the focus of perception? It is this questions that we use as starting point of this proposal that primarily revolves around perception and visions of the images and materials.
