Ginkaku-ji (Jisho-ji), Kyoto, Japan
Day 253: A second Farewell Card triptych, featuring some of my favorite places in Kyoto. Today’s piece features the Silver Pavilion, colloquially known as Ginkakuji.
A pamphlet from Ginkakuji Temple (銀閣寺) in Kyoto, originally a retirement villa built according to the designs of the shōgun Ashikaga Yoshimasa (足利義政) (1436-1490) but converted into a Zen temple after his death according to his wishes, with the cover featuring the entrance to the temple along with a poem by Yoshimasa:
わが庵は月待山のふもとにて かたむく月の影をしぞ思う
My little hut stands At the foot of the mountain "Waiting for the Moon" And my thoughts go to the light Of the moon sinking in the sky
