"My lady, do you know any dances?"
Moriko looked up from her bowl of soup and nodded.
"My grandmother was chosen as a Gosechi dancer when she was young, and she taught me some steps."
Uraume stopped serving himself another ladle of rice to look at her, confused.
"A girl sponsored by her family or powerful patrons. She dances for the Emperor during the daijosai."
A small whine escaped Uraume's lips, and Moriko giggled, touched by his innocence, confusion, and curiosity.
"It's a ceremony to thank the gods for the year's harvest. The Emperor offers the new rice and the wines made from it to the gods, there are a lot of purification rituals, and then the rehearsal of the Gosechi dances begin."
She had never been chosen, but she had seen the dances multiple times during the years, since basically everyone was invited to the Palace for the occasion, minor nobles included.
She remembered and described the beautiful clothes and hair accessories worn by the Gosechi dancers, the great rivalry between them and their patrons, the combs they presented the Emperor and from which he had to choose his favorite one, the young attendants who accompanied them and whom were introduced to the Emperor during a ceremony wholly dedicated to them...
"And then the dances finally begin!" She laughed, shaking her head. "The noblemen go crazy for them, because the dancers aren't hidden behind screens, but they're visible to everyone, performing right under the light of the torches. I don't know how my grandmother did it, I think I would have died of embarrassment."
Uraume opened his mouth, closed it, then opened it again. Moriko smiled at him.
"Would you... Would you show me the dance, my lady?"
She realized Sukuna had been listening to every word. He was staring at her, buzzing with impatient energy. He had even sat up straighter, his food forgotten.
"I want to see it, too," he said, and Moriko whined, her hands already sweating.
"My lord, I don't think I can remember..."
"Take a bit of time, then. A few minutes to recollect everything." He leaned in. "But you will dance."
"I don't care. I want to see you dance."
She sighed, but then she saw the way Uraume was looking at her. A bit guilty, for he believed he had put her in a difficult situation; but also hopeful and full of admiration.
"Fine," she said, sighing again, and the child beamed at her. But then an idea took form in her mind, and she smiled smugly at Sukuna.
"What will my reward be, my lord?"
He spluttered something, his left eyes comically large.
"Yes. The Gosechi dancers are given precious incense, silks, and clothes for their performance."
Her smile to Uraume was sweet.
"Of course, you don't need to give me anything, my dear."
"I could prepare you whatever dish you desired!"
"No, no. This will be my gift to you."
She sniffled and pretended to put on airs.
"But I'm expecting a good reward from my husband, since he is so demanding!"
Sukuna and his second mouth were pouting hard.
"I will give you a kiss," he said in the end, and she harrumphed, turning her head away.
"A measly kiss for a Gosechi dance?"
"My kisses aren't measly!"
"I don't care. I want more."
He grinned, one of the hands that weren't holding any bowls of food moving to touch her knee.
"I will give you a night full of-"
She glared at him, and his lower left eye moved to Uraume.
Oh, she was enjoying this! She wouldn't torture him too much, but she definitely wanted to play a little more!
She gave him a serene, content smile.
"Take a bit of time to think about it, my lord. I'm sure you will come up with a good reward!"
And she went back to her food, while Sukuna scowled and mumbled under his breath.
