First of DC Comics’ “Milestone” Collected Editions Announced

DC Comics announced the return of the Milestone line during Fandome 2020 and we now have the first wave of titles releasing digitally. Hardware: The Man in the Machine, Icon: A Hero’s Welcome, and Icon Vol. 2: The Mothership Connection will be the first Milestone releases of 2020.

Hardware: The Man in The Machine, from writer Dwayne McDuffie and artists Denys Cowan and J.J. Birch, is available now (September 29, 2020). 

Hardware: The Man in The Machine follows inventor/engineer Curt Metcalf who breaks free of his employer Edwin Alva, who refuses to share the profits from Metcalf’s creations. Metcalf discovers Alva has ties to organized crime and law enforcement either can’t or won’t touch him, so Metcalf creates the Hardware armor to take on his corrupt former boss himself.

Icon: A Hero’s Welcome, from writers M.D. Bright and Dwayne McDuffie and artist M.D. Bright, releases on October 6, 2020. 

Icon: A Hero’s Welcome (1999) collects Icon #1-8. The comic follows Augustus Freeman, a lawyer who secretly uses his alien super-powers to help others. A teenage girl from the streets becomes his sidekick, Rocket, and convinces Freeman to use his abilities to inspire people as Icon, the hero of Dakota.

Icon Vol. 2: The Mothership Connection, from writer Dwayne McDuffie and artists M.D. Bright and Mike Gustovich, releases on October 13, 2020.

Icon Vol. 2: The Mothership Connection (2010) continues the story of Augustus Freeman. "In 1869, the life pod of an adult alien crashed in the cotton fields of the South. Discovered by a slave woman, the extraterrestrial's genetic structure was reconfigured, and he was transformed into an African American baby.” More than 120 years later Freeman is a lawyer who, with the backing of his teenage sidekick Rocket, will become Icon, hero of the Dakota.
