(Swipe for video) I cried last night when I left home because of how much I enjoyed this last trip and how much I knew I’d miss it. I felt torn and confused and thought do I really want to live so far from home? Is where I live now really where I should be? I miss the snow and it snows much more back home. But then I woke up to this beauty this morning. (And it hasn’t stopped yet!) It’s as if the gods knew I needed some reassurance for making the decisions I’ve made. I got home from the airport at 1:30am, woke up at 8am, grabbed my camera and headed straight to the mountains. My car got stuck twice and my tire pressure was too low to drive, my phone died, my camera had issues and I was out way longer than planned. But that’s when I realized. I was SO happy the entire time all this was going on. I got to meet some wonderful folks that helped me shovel my car out. I got to see beautiful views off roads I shouldn’t of driven on. I felt so alive and so grateful. And realized I did make the right decision. I wouldn’t of been able to have this experience if I didn’t move, this is what living is all about to me ↟ . . To connect to all the beauty the world offers. To stand inside a giant untouched snowy forest having it all to myself. To stare up at trees so fluffy and tall my neck hurts to see the top. To be connected in two places at once, for two different reasons. To realize I don’t have to chose, but that I am able to experience it all. I wanted to take a day to readjust back but I also felt a pressure to get back to work right away. The snow was sent from the gods, pushing me to take a half day for myself. And now I am feeling more energized and inspired than ever, all the things that are necessary to create. My encouragement to you all today is to get out and explore. LIVE! The moon made it difficult to view the meteor shower this year, but I did get lucky enough to capture a couple of them on camera before it rose too high in the sky. I hadn't planned on traveling so far this weekend, but I'm glad that I did; my usual neck of the woods was far too cloudy to see the Persiads clearly. We ended up at Summer Lake Hot Springs, a favorite soaking destination that I first visited on my way home from Burning Man in 2011. If you live in Oregon and haven't gone yet, please do! Incredible images of the worst disaster to hit this area in many many years. The PNW has lost a good friend and I'm sad beyond words. If you think the cheap thrill of fireworks are worth it, this will be a billboard that won't recover in our lifetime. Photos by the super talented @chrisliedlephoto (@get_repost) ・・・ I shot these photos Monday night of the Eagle Creek Fire from the Washington side of the Columbia River. I've seen a lot of fires. I grew up in Southern California, but I've never seen a fire move with such speed and ferocity. The Eagle Creek Fire started by a teens playing with fireworks about a mile from the Eagle Creek Trailhead, one of the most popular trails in the Gorge. The fire has now charred more than 10,000 acres of incredible forest. An ember carried by strong winds jumped the Columbia River and is now burning 25+ acres in Washington. Thousands of homes, historic landmarks and businesses are now in the fire's path. Keep firefighters and those in the path in your thoughts, donate where you can, practice Leave No Trace principles and pray for rain. I never thought I'd be saying those words in the Pacific Northwest. Here we are. Heartbroken. Woke up st 3:30am this morning and headed south to visit Silver Falls. As usual I found some more magic in that forest. I was going to wait and post photos, but ahh.. l enjoyed the hypnotic movement of the sun rays dancing with the cold morning mist & fog way too much to not share this. I just wish I had taken a longer video! Spent the day with some wonderful people and learned so much. After that I shot a bow for hours and went antiquing. The Oregon Coast is certainly something special. With the nonstop 50mph winds yesterday blowing me off my feet, it was definitely one of the more exhilarating coastal experiences I’ve had. I’ve lived by a coast my entire life, on the east of the US and the west and have been by many stormy oceans. But there’s a special beauty about the misty giant rocks emerging from the never ending rainy gloomy sea. If you want to experience what the power of the gods feel like and gain a new perspective (one that makes you realize how tiny you are in this world) then stand beside a raging stormy coast. The rain felt like ice bullets, I’m lucky I managed to take this seemingly normal photo. So swipe right to see some of what the wind was like. I had hoped to take garb photos but the winds were just way too strong to even pull out my camera for more than a second ..
