Fanfic writer 40 questions! 😊✨
Which of your fics would you keep the basic plot of but rewrite completely? Untangling the Frozen Knots. With the new characterization, it could be much much deeper
Anything that you'd like to write but feel like you're unable to? Pregnancy fics, I think!
How would you describe your writing style? Someone (if it's you, make some noise, coz I forgot your username) once called my writing "Flangst" because it's a perfect balance of fluff and angst. Yes welcome to the JLATS train tchoo tchoo
Do you have any OCs? Do you have a story for them? I have a ton of them. Some I didn't even put in my fanfics. I have a story for EACH of them they are my babies
What's a tag you never want to use for your works even when it applies? None come to my mind
What's your ratio for rating your works? No idea what this means lol
Your favourite ao3 tag. Elsamaren!
How slow is a slow burn? Slow enough for you to go aAaAAaaAAH in the tags lmao
Thoughts on cliffhangers. ONE GOOD LOOK AT MY WRITING AND YOU KNOW I LOVE THEM
Top three favourite fic tropes. Characters who think they are unworthy and don't see the other's feelings. Sassy domestic fluff. And badass?
Three tropes that are fine but overrated. Sincerely can't think of any. If your writing is good you can make me love the most basic tropes.
If you write in more than one language, what's the difference? I write in French and English and it's DAY AND NIGHT. The way you express yourself is radically different. I am somehow more comfortable writing emotional scenes in English...?
Rate your worldbuilding skills from 1 to 10. 0 because I mostly play with what's there
Write and share the first sentence of a new fic. Just that. "Kristoff, we're screwed." (it will be reworked lol)
What's your favourite plotless fic you have written? If by plotless you mean drabble there's NO WAY I can answer that I wrote 200 or so lmao but if you mean crack I gotta say that In The Eye Of The Storm ended on light crack.
Are one-shots really underrated? THEY CAN BE GOOD
Past or present tense? Why? definitely past. for evident reasons: you are telling a story. a story happened. past tense. final.
First, second, or third person? third person, otherwise I feel like it's forcing the reader to be the character and it's not what they want.
Share a snippet from a wip without giving any context for it. "the castle is under attack but most importantly you are getting a raise."
Do you work on a single project or many at the same time? How does that work for you? Always one at a time, just like I do with daily things. I am unable to listen to music when I write as well!
Can you accurately predict how long your fics are going to be? If you can, what's your secret? fun fact, I actually PLAN and not predict how long they're going to be. I always go around 8 chapters if it's a short idea, 10 or 11 if it's an epic tale. I make a skeleton draft based on that :D
What is it about watching the same two idiots falling in love over and over again? THE SWEET REWARD MY FRIEND, AND ITS LITTLE VARIATIONS ON THE WAY
Dialogue or description? Why is the other one so hard? both are hard. but I practice by observing people IRL and in movies/series so the dialogue is realistic and try to depict orally what I would say to a blind person for the description :)
Thoughts on flashbacks/flashforwards. I try not to abuse of them but the trope is toooo gooood
Is writing the whole thing beforehand better or worse than writing it as you go? it's nice to have both detailed drafts and bullet points drafts, I think.
What would you describe as OOC? Anything that would make the character uncomfortable, or roll their eyes at. Sometimes I read fanfiction that is tagged as canonverse and I'm just ???? did you check the media more than once????
Do you agree that one shouldn't start a story with a piece of dialogue? Oh no sometimes it's really good
Any writing advice that works for you and you feel like sharing? Colored. Sorted. Drafts. I keep saying it because it is life saving. Sort them by trope, by chronological order, etc. COLORS BABES [the colors of this post are random though lol]
What's the hardest thing about writing? proofreading and cringing about your whole writing...
Describe a fic that almost happened, but then it didn't. A new Elsamaren fic that I cancelled, and I'm gonna put all the ideas I can in my UTFK sequel :)
What was the most difficult fic for you to write (but in the end you made it)? In terms of emotion? Lift the Spirit, when Elsa falls into coma. In terms of technicity? Untangling the Frozen Knots, because of the historical accuracy I wanted to respect lol
Do you have a word/expression that you always use in your writing? mmmmh probably "Hey hey hey" for a touching focus
Give your writing a compliment. GOOD BOI PAT PAT
Do you write to improve? Or is that not a concern for you? I think we all improve at every fic, at every writing. I feel like, at the end of each drabble even, I am a better writer than I was the day before.
Thoughts on writing challenges/contests. Love them, and I love drabble prompts too, it's challenging as well.
How do you come up with fic titles? What's the one you're most proud of? As ridiculous as it may sound, it's often one of the first things I think of at the beginning of writing a fic. First I think of the climax, or a headcanon idea that is so strong I HAVE to write a fic around it. Then the title pops into my mind. My favorite title is hard to choose... Untangling the Frozen Knots is a play on words I like, but I'm really proud of Lift the Spirit, because of lifting Elsa's spirits and literally lifting her up in the air with the magic rip.
Do you research before writing or while you write? Is it fun or boring for you? Of course, especially when most of my fanfics are about Frozen, set in the end of the 1800's. It's fun but really I do not advise to spend the afternoon checking google tabs lol
"This never happened" fix-it fics or "this happened but" fix-it fics? Definitely this happened but. I'm not a fan of canon denial. Yes canon can be badly written sometimes. But hey, it's there for a reason.
Wildest AU scenario you have written? Probably the one where Anna and Elsa travels back through time but it's their consciousnesses that get put into their young selves. They are back into before the parents died, but with post-Frozen 2 memories. LOVE THIS ONE.
Write a 9-word fic. Snow Sisters switch bodies and Anna nails ice magic
👌
