and i do like the idea that keane is unsettled/scared of nicky bc how composed he is. i think abt how when keane first set eyes on any of the immortals face to face, the first thing he saw was a van full of dead men and nicky going ‘dont suppose you could take these cuffs off?’ that must have been a heart attack and a half to experience

Nicky is the mushroom saying "You cannot kill me in a way that matters" then when the enemy asks what he means Joe is all smiley and bright like "Decay is an extent form of life."

This is probably a really stupid question, but do fics for the 'afterlife' prompt - if in fact taking place in the afterlife - require a tag for character death? To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure how I'm supposed to handle that on ao3 either, what's the generally accepted rule here when a fic takes place in the afterlife?

That is a good question! If they already died and the fic takes place after their deaths there is no need for the character death tag, I guess. ‘Afterlife’ itself should be enough of a warning in itself. I think the ‘character death’ tag is rather meant for fics where a character dies in the middle or end of the story to warn/prepare the readers because they might not expect it in the beginning and would be in for a bad surprise.

I have decided that I need instances of Joe and Nicky way way back helping each other shave. The intimacy of it destroys me okay. Especially if we go back to like, 1103 or some shit and they're friendly but not together yet so the air is heavy and neither one of the can breathe properly and their hands are super gentle and soft as they drag a blade over the skin in a way that's not supposed to hurt when they'd have used it to kill just a year or two prior

This chaotic vaguely threatening energy also implies Nicky will tilt Joe's face up with the tip of his sword when they're sparring - obviously with no intent to hurt him with it because they're just sparring but he's winning and needs to be cocky - and Joe will just smile brightly at him.

Yes hello I hold you personally responsible for my death all I can think about is the /yearning/ in those mundane activities. Now that I've gained the bravery to come off anon, I need to mention my opinion that Nicky radiates that 'barely contained chaos' energy?? Like just deadpan says stuff like "God will end our lives when he sees fit." and Nile is like vibrating going "Hey, what the hell was that?"
