Love On The Weekend
Long story short, I did a Facebook cleanse starting last Thursday night. I deleted the app from my phone and didn't log into the site on a web browser. Yesterday afternoon when Mayer announced the song would debut on Facebook Live today I didn't hear about the Q&A until later so I logged onto FB only to submit my question. It was the first thing that popped into my head, I wrote it, and logged off. Told a co-worker about saying I never get chosen for those types of things and went about my business.
Today, the single released on iTunes around 1 p.m. so I downloaded it and listened to it as I walked around the building w/some co-workers. I wasn't impressed, I thought the lyrics could be better. I had some harsh words and stumped my big toe so hard I thought I had broken it. Went back into my office and listened to it some more. Hopped on the FB Live video and all of a sudden John Mayer says "Karri Freeman asks." And I literally went crazy. I started jumping up and down barely heard him answer the question before running out of my office flipping out. The toe was feeling better at this point. Co-workers started to freak out b/c I was. They all knew b/c I said I was shutting my door and to not be disturbed. I settled down watched the rest of the video and have been listening to "Love on the Weekend" the rest of the night. It defiantly is a song to listen to while driving around in your car. I feel a little 80's pop in there w/lyrical hints to his past songs and The Police reference. It's grown on me. Some say it sounds like a little bit of Springsteen and I can hear that, not a specific song, but I just finished reading his autobiography and could see similarities between the two. The beginning has a "War of My Life" musical feel, but not in a depressing way, more upbeat and airy. I like the chill vibe, I love it musically, could use a little more guitar. I can't stand the "I hate your guts" line although I do get it and I'm not fond of the "dirty clothes" line either. My fave lyric has to be "I want you baby like you can't understand." Bring on 2017! Thanks John for answering my question!
