Jock Rule is book 2 in Sara Neyโs latest โJock Rowโ series, and it follows the story of Kip โSasquatchโ Carmichael and Theodora โTeddyโ Johnson.
Kip is a member of the rugby team on Jock Row, and is referred to as โSasquatchโ because of his initimidating appearance. Teddy on the other hand is a sweet but shy heroine just looking, and failing to make friends on at university. Their pairing seemed so unlikely, but it was so sweet to watch this story happen.
I think I have a realllllll soft spot for characters that area sweet/shy/overlooked, itโs probably why I love the โwallflowerโ trope/characters so much in historical romance novels. In a weird way both the hero and heroine are largely overlooked characters in their own opposite ways, Kip mostly brings it on himself by being huge, hairy and silent and Teddy sorta just struggles to be social.
Ney takes us on an unlikely friendship between these two characters as after weeks of watching Teddy struggle at the Jock Row parties, Kip agrees to help her get the attention of others.
In taking Teddy under his wing, and his own private nature, where Kip would rather be known for hi achevements rather than his last name, the author pens a deep and genuinely loveable hero. The interaction between these characters had Neyโs trademark laugh out loud humour and the sexual tension was just PPPPERRFFECCT.
Whilst I really loved this story, my only addition would be that perhaps when Teddy does learn of who Kip is/his background โ she sort of reacts really poorly, basically the exact reason why Kip made himself known as the โsasquatchโ to begin with. I felt like the resolution to their complication was almost too easy? And I guess as a whole the complication did not seem that much of a big deal in the first place.
In saying all of this though, I really would give this book 4 stars out of 5, and I would definitely recommend Sara Ney to any other reader as one of my most favourite authors particularly in the genre of sports/college romance.ย
