hii! im a junior from Puerto Rico and I'm thinking about applying to brown :) i have two questions: 1- what's the most common major in brown, if there is any? & 2. how diverse is the student body culturally? are there a lot of international students?
First, apologies for the delayed response! Second, we are thrilled to hear that! You should definitely apply. Third, here is our answer:
Here are the stats:
The most popular concentration (our pretentious word for major) for 2011 was Economics, with 195 students graduating with a degree in the subject. [source]
Apparently 11% of the class of 2015 was international, and 44% were ethnic minorities. [source]
Although Economics seems to be the most common concentration, it is often combined with other concentrations. There are also many Computer Science concentrators, as well as English and various pre-med routes such as Biology, Neuroscience, Chemistry, etc. Additionally, I would say that we are a culturally rich campus. We have hosted many conferences for various groups, and Brown is really known for its diversity. It's also one of the main three things you'll learn about during your freshman orientation week. There are also Program Houses for groups that you can read about here.
