“Adam’s Apple” by #WayneShorter was recorded on both February 3rd and 24th, 1966, at the Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey featuring Shorter on tenor, #HerbieHancock on piano, #ReggieWorkman on bass and #JoeChambers on drums. This was Shorter’s tenth album as a leader that was released in October 1967. This is my favorite Shorter album. The two albums I’m featuring is a @BlueNoteRecords Liberty which is an original I purchased a few years ago at my local record store for only five dollars and the other is a @MusicMattersJazz SRX Series reissue I was lucky to get when it was released a couple years ago for $59 bucks. It was one of the twelve original SRX Series releases. My favorite tune of this session is “Footprints” which I favor over the version on #MilesDavis “Miles Smiles”. Not sure why I prefer this version, but Wayne’s solo is breathtakingly good. I also love the way Reggie Workman accompanies Wayne and Herbie. The Liberty copy was only five bucks for a reason. It was bad shape, and the album cover is kind of ripped to shreds. Not sure why someone would neglect a classic album like this. The SRX Series copy is like all the other SRX’s, OUTSTANDING! Outstanding in the album cover, the vinyl is super quiet and the photos inside the gatefold our astonishing. I would love to replace this Liberty copy with another Liberty or hopefully #BlueNoteRecords will include this classic in their next Classic Series releases.
