Oh boy howdy! (Excuse my Texan) But you just picked my all time favorite one to talk about because those feels are so utterly painful.
As we have witnessed through sith history they have seemed to have the power to manipulate and implant ideas into the minds of others. Almost of a grandeur and more painfully sneaky scale than a mind trick. This is inception. They implant the idea, which will then lead a force sensitive to the dark side and then in turn leads the person to the very thing they feared would happen and were trying to prevent – as we saw with Anakin’s premonitions. I believe this same technique was implemented by Snoke to seduce Ben Solo to the dark side in becoming Kylo Ren.
The dream that haunted him from a young age, he feared, he could not speak of it because the idea was too painful, the fear of judgement too strong. He feared if he were to ever speak the words out loud describing his dreams they would become like a spell that would make it come true. He hid his dreams from his mother and especially his father. Noticing the struggle in him Leia sent Ben off to train and study with Luke. Still no one was aware of the recurring dream that was slowly plaguing him into insanity and pushing him into darkness.
That dream as a child had elements that perplexed him. The dream provided him a greater sense of the fear of the unknown than to be looking out into the darkness. The curiosity of the perspective and the uneasiness of what it might mean haunted him.
That dream he had – seemed to him at a young age as a conversation of what seemed to be between his older father and the perspective of his murderer. Night after night he had to watch as the older version of his father’s face showed the pain, sorrow and void that entered his eyes the moment red saber pierced his body. The element of his dream that perplexed him most was why his father would reach out to his murderer affectionately. It plagued his mind night and day.
He was haunted with this dreams into his early 20s, which slowly seemed to subside as he gained in rank in the Knights of Ren. It seemed to him, the more he gained power and embraced the dark. The less the dream bothered him, until one day he had forgotten until he was faced with the very moment that it came to fruition.
