Was having some fun with @yuunicworks making a zombie-apocolapse-world-and-everyone-is-a-form-of-monster universe to get us out of some drawing slumps ;3
Top is my guy - Virgil - who is a demon-dragon hybrid. The purebreed Gryphon is Yuun's and his name is Issac. They are totally dating. ;3c
They both are enrolled in the military, who work to eradicate monster-zombies from their lands. Everyone is this world is a type of monster and has a steady access to magic. The human forms are just forms they take to be able to move comfortably in their town's and cities (No need to build different size archways for everyone if they all can 'shrink' to go through easily). Hybrids can happen and to ensure that expectant children and pregnant mother's are safe, they infuse magic into the child to take a human form. The mothers give birth in human form as well. For purebreds this isn't necessary.
Children born as human's will stay in that form up until 2-4 years of age. Only then will the magic have 'worn off' enough for them to showcase their true forms. Which brings me the the second-last pic: baby Virgil and his mother. She's the dragon-half of Virg. She's a snake-like dragon that can use venom as a secondary offense. Both of Virgil's parents are high-ranking military operatives (his father was a great fighter, but was forced to retire from battle due to a crippling injury).
For the most part everyone retains a human shape to move about at ease, but you are more likely to see more beast forms as you go down classes. The upper class will remain human about 90% of the time, feeling that going to events as a beast was a bit barbaric, although some with a good reputation can sometimes do whatever they please. Virgil's parents are considered upper-class, so he is somewhat expected to stay in human form. But his boy Isaac helps him stretch his legs and horns (?) once in a while, letting him feel truly free from both his human form and his parent's strict rules.
