Max Martin and [Karl Johan] Shellback [Schuster] were the last people I collaborated with on [2012 album] Red, and I wished we could have done more and explored more. So going into this album, I knew that I wanted to start with them again. Then I thought, “Wouldn’t it be amazing to work with Ryan Tedder?” And then I was with Jack Antonoff and Lena Dunham at the beach, and we started talking about our favorite '80s music. All of this started happening organically, and I found myself gravitating toward pop sensibilities, pop hooks, pop production styles.
Taylor Swift on making 1989 a pop album (x)
I think the fact that *Swedish accent* “I love it!” (an infamous quote from either Martin or Shellback in the Blank Space voice memo) has already become a regular catchphrase of mine says an awful lot about how 1989 is influencing EVERY SINGLE ASPECT OF MY LIFE BAR NONE
but I can't complain b/c *Swedish accent* I LOVE IT
People freaking out about Taylor
Ok so I know a lot of you are freaking out because Taylor is working with Max Martin and Johan Shellback again, don't. When I heard that she was doing a bunch of collaborations for her new album in 2011 (later known as Red) I was worried that I would hate it. Red came out and guess what? I loved it, just like every other album Taylor has released. Was it the same as Speak Now, Fearless or Taylor Swift? No, but it was amazing in its own right. I have learned that Taylor knows what she is doing, she would never release anything that she is not 100% proud of and I know whatever album 5 sounds like I will love it! She is amazing in everything she does. You just need to learn to trust her, she knows what she is doing!
