Planet of the Apes (1968)
In Rod Sterling’s original script for the 1968 “Planet of the Apes,” the ape culture was more comparable to contemporary human— modern, with skyscrapers, cars, and even helicopters. The script was rewritten to make it more affordable.
In 2018, Dark Horse published a graphic novel based on the original script— it was called “Planet of the Apes: Visionaries”. Artwork by Chad Lewis
The character of “Thomas” (Taylor in the film) looks more like James Franciscus (Brent in the “Beneath” sequel) than Charlton Heston from the first film. The apes are designed to resemble actual apes, not the pseudo-apes from John Chambers’ award-winning make-up design.
