Add Isaac Newton to the ‘List of Prominent Historical Figures That Have Been Named as Participating in Nefarious Activities in TMA(GP) Cases’

– John Flamsteed
The first Royal Astronomer, John Flamsteed, often found himself embroiled in seventeenth-century intellectual drama. His description of Isaac Newton, which was inscribed in a letter, reveals the tensions Flamsteed often brought to his academic community. The sickly, somewhat ornery astronomer spent much of his time observing stars and other astronomical information. The Cambridge-educated scientist published and discovered important astronomical observations about stars, mural arcs, and planetary tables; he catalogued over three thousand stars in his lifetime. He often struggled to positively collaborate with other astronomers, and the strain on these relationships negatively reflected upon Flamsteed’s intellectual reception. His dealings with political powers, however, fared better than his relationships with his colleagues, as Charles II appointed him as the first Royal Astronomer in 1675.
