Problem- I feel that in our culture/region we’re not very open to introducing ourselves to new people in public. This could be from our car culture lifestyle, the cold weather, or the constant smartphone/headphones distraction. I’m proposing a way of getting closer to our neighbors and people in our community and embracing those around you.
Words-
Community

Get-to-know each other

Teach
Introduction- (or Introduce)
A space that could house a game or a way of interacting that isn’t available elsewhere.
A space that would promote interaction between people who wouldn’t normally interact with each other. A place that would promote introduction
-Thin tables
close seats.
Obviously segregation is an issue so what’s a space that can be used to bridge this race/culture gap?
Spaces with unused concrete space
Wisconsin 2004- a 74% native population
Teach-
By teaching anything, you’re saying, “This is what i’ve experienced, what I’ve gone through, what I got out of it and that I want to give it on to you.” There are somethings that you have to learn in person with someone who’s already experienced. I’d like to do a paper sculpture that could depict an idea of giving knowledge and experience to others not as experienced.
Decay
With much of the city of Milwaukee abandoned, the buildings stand like haunted houses, relics of another industrial era. While some of the buildings are begin restored, some maintained. Many are withering away into rubble. I think the word decay could be a very interesting form to explore in paper forms. Much of these abandoned buildings can be scene as an eye sore initially. However, this has a certain aged beauty to it that can be appreciated for it’s history. There could be something that would embrace those around you and one’s environment
Construct- Many people have a stigma or intimidation towards making art. They feel because they don’t take on the artist role as a full time job. If there could be something that could break down this stigma I think that could be great and aspire more people construct. Maybe there could be a community center or bulletin board that would serve as a function of making art and to inspire those around. This could bring people together and serve as the catalyst for people to get to know those around them.
Embrace- Theres something somewhat daunting about embracing the cold that can lead to you spending too much time in comfort of your warm home. There’s something scary about finishing a project, sometimes it’s easy to just keep working. There’s something unnerving about meeting new people, one could say they’re content with the ones they already have in their life. What I think would be really motivational would be to somehow make a piece that would be a push for people to get out of their comfort zone and do something new. Even if it’s just getting to know your neighbor.
