Spoiler Alert - A Quiet Place

Theory: The reason the father chose his son to go with him into the wilderness was because he KNEW the daughter had the wits to fend for herself and that the son did not. He did not know why she had developed this way (she believed her father did not love her) but he did know his child enough to know she could hold her own. His son, however, did not have those skills. His mentality is "dad will save us, dad loves us, so dad always saves me" (we see this during the argument between the two children at the top of the grain silo, also this child's personality is foreshadowed as he is asleep in dad's arms while crossing the bridge at the start of the movie). This also explains why the father did not reveal the reason the daughter did not go on their // Survival Skill 101 // endeavor - he did not want to crush his son's spirit
